About the Role
This role supports environmental compliance, sustainability, and risk management initiatives across industrial operations. The Environmental Engineer partners with operations, engineering, and leadership to ensure regulatory compliance while driving continuous improvement in environmental performance within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations related to air, water, waste, and land use
- Manage environmental permits, reporting, and regulatory agency communications
- Monitor and analyze environmental data including emissions, wastewater, stormwater, and waste streams
- Support environmental impact assessments and risk evaluations for new and existing projects
- Develop and implement environmental management plans, procedures, and training programs
- Conduct internal audits and inspections and support external regulatory inspections
- Investigate environmental incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
- Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to integrate environmental considerations into process design and improvements
- Support sustainability initiatives including waste reduction, recycling, energy efficiency, and emissions reduction
- Maintain accurate documentation and records in accordance with regulatory and company requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- 3–8+ years of environmental experience in metals, mining, manufacturing, chemical, or heavy industrial environments
- Experience supporting metals, mining, copper, or smelting operations
- Working knowledge of environmental regulations including Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, and applicable state regulations
- Experience with air permitting, wastewater management, and hazardous and non-hazardous waste programs
- Familiarity with ISO 14001 or environmental management systems
- Experience interacting directly with regulatory agencies
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Comfortable working in industrial and outdoor environments
- PE license or EIT a plus
