About this role

Are you a highly-motivated Data Engineering Manager looking to make a bigger impact at an organization that changes lives?

Do you thrive in a rapidly evolving, fast-paced environment requiring creativity, resourcefulness, high energy and an ability to adapt quickly?

Are you passionate about healthcare and looking to create a revolutionary new approach to digestive healthcare with a radically better patient experience?

If so, you could be a perfect fit for our team of professionals who share a mission to eliminate the impact of digestive health conditions through redesigned GI care that patients love.

The Role

As our client's first Data Engineering Manager, you’ll lead the team responsible for building and scaling the data platform that powers our Marketing, Analytics, AI and RCM systems. This is a high-impact role that sits at the intersection of engineering, operations, and business strategy. You will ensure the accuracy, accessibility, and security of data across the organization, partnering closely with Growth, Finance, Analytics, and Operations teams. This is a true player-coach role, ideal for someone who can dive deep into technical architecture while shaping and executing a cohesive data strategy. You’ll work cross-functionally to develop a unified data foundation that supports rapid growth and drives innovation in tech-enabled healthcare.

What you’ll do:

  • Define and execute the long-term technical roadmap for our data platform, balancing scalability, reliability and cost against achieving mission-critical business goals
  • Grow, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of data engineers in a culture of collaboration, ownership, and continuous learning
  • Manage tradeoffs between near and long-term business and technology goals, ensuring customer commitments are met
  • Collaborate with analytics to define and document data models that support growth metrics, clinical insights, and operational reporting
  • Set a high-quality bar and ensure frameworks are in place to support testing, validation, and monitoring
  • Working with our Data Product Manager, collaborate closely with Analytics and Business Operations teams to translate business needs into clear requirements for the team
  • Develop career paths for data engineers, creating opportunities for advancement and skill-building as the company scales.
  • Partner with Security and IT to uphold strong data governance, audit trails, and compliance with HIPAA and other healthcare data standards

Who you are:

  • Hold a BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Math, Physics, or a related field, or have equivalent experience in a relevant area.
  • 8+ years of hands-on data engineering experience, including 3+ years in a manager or team lead role
  • Deep expertise with modern data tools and lakehouse architectures
  • Proficient in SQL and Python and/or Go, with a strong background in building scalable ETL systems
  • Expertise in data management best practices, including data definitions, lineage, quality frameworks, and governance models — especially in regulated industries.
  • Strong cross-functional communicator who can clearly translate technical ideas for non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Knowledge about data security and HIPAA compliance.
  • Experience with FHIR standards, HL7, or other healthcare data interchange formats is a plus.
  • Energized by our mission to improve health outcomes through innovative, technology-enabled care
