PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Maintenance Planner position is responsible for effectively planning and scheduling the execution of all maintenance work control processes. Position efficiently and effectively plans and schedules all resources to conduct maintenance activities resulting in minimum downtime and maximum productivity; manages work priorities; develops job plans; defines parts and materials; defines crafts and skills of Mechanics and Electricians; and engages the proper resources to develop a safe work plan.  In addition, the position provides the equipment-related expertise and technical guidance to improve Preventive Maintenance activities, reduce equipment failure, and drive performance. The position utilizes downtime data, run hours, and manufacturer recommendations to forecast work and develop a schedule for work to be completed. a job library with work plans for common and uncommon work tasks for Maintenance Mechanics and Electricians.


WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Maintenance Manager, directly supervises the Inventory/Purchasing Attendant, and has dotted line oversight on creating and assigning Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Work Orders (WO) to the Maintenance Mechanics and Electricians. The position works closely with the maintenance department, Manufacturing Managers, Production Scheduler, and other plant staff.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

1.    Develop a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual schedule by using the Infor M3 Maintenance Module and other software (Excel, Manufacturing Execution System (MES), etc.). Process and track incoming work requests (WR), assign work orders (WO) and schedule preventative maintenance (PM) to completion. Assign and schedule work by priority. (Note: emergency work orders are not processed by planner/schedulers)

Actively participates in scheduling meeting with operation partners to finalize priority of WO’s and PM’s during optimum downtime windows and necessary lead times.

Communicates an up-to-date schedule for all resources in; maintenance, production, outside services/machine representatives, parts cage, and engineering.

Manage a backlog of WO’s which require major or significant portion of the facility to be shutdown

Ensure the area, department, or facility in which they are assigned receives professional maintenance service in a timely manner to ensure high equipment availability and performance.

Analyze production data, downtime, MES and OEE calculations, mean time between failures, and PM effectiveness to align Maintenance activities to overall plant performance.

 

2.    Review and ensure Work Orders are clear and accurate and contain clear scope of work, realistic completion date, proper lead times, correct equipment identification, proper authorization and discuss details with originator of the WR. Consult with Maintenance personnel, Production Supervisors, Requester, Production Scheduler, Inventory/Purchasing Attendant as necessary for feedback.

 

3.    Obtain and organize all information required for the Mechanics and Electricians to perform the work, including drawings, vendor manuals, supplemental instructional materials, special procedures, and other file material which are appropriate. Verify all materials, parts, information, tools, and labor are available prior to scheduling.

 

4.    Manage the Parts Cage on identifying timeliness of parts and materials required to complete PM’s and WO’s. Schedule work to reflect availability of backordered parts. Provide special instructions on kitting of parts.

 

5.    Track and schedule planned tasks required by state/federal, safety, or food quality regulations, including but not limited to backflow preventer testing, calibration log, scale calibrations, fire alarm and sprinkler testing.

 

6.    Maintain accurate Key Performance Improvement metrics on the performance of planning and scheduling functions. Provide timely reports to the Maintenance Manager.

 

7.    Maintain and continually update Infor M3 CMMS software records for the facility to provide accurate time and cost detail by asset, department, and mechanic. 

 

8.    Develop and maintain a Maintenance Job Library to include work tasks and instructions commonly completed in the plant.

 

9.    Ensure compliance with departmental and operational safety and regulatory requirements.

 

10. Maintain regular attendance and work appropriate hours to ensure essential functions are completed in timely fashion.

 

11. Perform under the Working Conditions described below.


 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY:

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

·     Principles and practices of food manufacturing, including food safety, quality, manufacturing concepts.

·     Reliability and Maintenance Best Practices, Maintenance Job Planning, and computerized maintenance management systems.

·     Resource leveling.

·     Working knowledge of the maintenance processes and proper use of the work order system, planning and scheduling and storeroom processes.

·     Working knowledge and ability to train to Predictive Maintenance principles and tools such as: vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, etc.

·     Principles and practices of maintenance, electrical, electronics, PLC, fabrication, and welding.

·     Working knowledge of FDA and OSHA regulations, GMPs, Sanitation, and HACCP.

·     Understanding of associated processing equipment and engineering.

·     Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.

 

ABILITY TO:

·     Demonstrated ability to write and provide simple and accurate instructions.

·      Communicate effectively in cross functional teams to better align personnel and production schedules against maintenance requirements to ensure overall Plant performance.

·     Effectively manage multiple priorities or projects simultaneously with multidisciplinary teams toward a shared goal.

·     Demonstrated ability to read standard blueprints, machine, and process drawings. Ability to sketch simple drawings for instruction or redline existing drawings.

·     Have adequate craft knowledge and skill to accurately estimate labor hours, material requirement and skills needed to complete a job. Must have a demonstrated ability to visualize and communicate the execution of work.

·     Identify, research, and analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, and project consequences of proposed actions.

·     Plan and develop maintenance work instructions and kits for planned Repairs and Preventive Maintenance.

·     Use computers and computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.


 

 

EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION/LICENSES, AND TRAINING:

·     Mechanical/electrical background is required. Apprenticeship program or technical school background is desirable.

·     Minimum of 3-5 years of industrial maintenance experience, as well as experience in implementing and maintaining a preventive/predictive maintenance system.

·     HACCP Certification, SQF Certification, Food Safety Programs training, ammonia training, boiler operator training, and/or pneumatics training preferred.
