We are seeking an experienced Database Development Engineer with expertise in modern AI-powered database technologies. In this role, you will partner closely with our software engineering and design teams to architect, implement, and optimize database systems that support both traditional transactional workloads and emerging AI/ML applications.

This position will play a key role in supporting the database architecture for a next-generation timekeeping system, ensuring scalability, performance, and seamless integration with existing enterprise systems.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to design and support database architecture for a timekeeping system, ensuring integration with existing platforms.
  • Architect, implement, and maintain scalable database solutions using PostgreSQL and vector database extensions (e.g., pgvector).
  • Design and optimize schemas supporting both relational data and high-dimensional vector embeddings.
  • Implement efficient vector similarity search capabilities for AI-driven use cases such as:
  • Semantic search
  • Recommendation systems
  • Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
  • Develop and tune indexing strategies for vector data (HNSW, IVF, etc.).
  • Optimize query performance for vector similarity searches and large-scale data operations.
  • Integrate database solutions with AI/ML pipelines in collaboration with data science teams.
  • Manage cloud-native database deployments (Neon or similar serverless platforms).
  • Establish and maintain:
  • Data security standards
  • Backup and disaster recovery strategies
  • Monitoring and observability practices
  • Lead database migration, version control, and CI/CD best practices.
  • Stay current with emerging AI database technologies and performance optimization techniques.


Qualifications & Skills:

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in database development and administration.
  • Strong proficiency in PostgreSQL and its ecosystem.
  • Hands-on experience with vector databases and extensions (e.g., pgvector).
  • Experience deploying and managing databases on Neon or similar cloud platforms.
  • Deep understanding of:
  • Vector embeddings
  • Similarity search algorithms
  • High-dimensional indexing strategies
  • Advanced SQL and performance optimization expertise.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML workflows and database integration patterns.
  • Experience with database migration tools, version control, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools.

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with additional AI-native or vector-enabled databases.
  • Proficiency in Python or other AI/ML development languages.
  • Knowledge of distributed database systems and sharding strategies.
  • Experience with real-time data processing or streaming architectures.
  • Familiarity with LLM applications and RAG architectures.
  • Kubernetes or containerized database deployment experience.
