Editorial Messaging & Positioning Writer – Music/Culture

About the Role
We’re seeking a highly skilled Editorial Messaging & Positioning Writer to help define and articulate the editorial voice of companies Music. This role will craft compelling narratives that communicate Apple Music’s perspective across in-product editorial, PR, and marketing channels. The ideal candidate combines sharp editorial instincts, deep music industry knowledge, and proven experience writing for major music or culture brands.
This is a hands-on writing role that blends creativity and strategy—developing editorial frameworks, positioning narratives, and original content that inspires, informs, and resonates with global audiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and refine companies Music’s editorial voice and messaging, ensuring consistency across campaigns, in-product storytelling, and marketing materials.
- Write and edit creative briefs and positioning documents that inform how the Apple Music brand is expressed internally and externally.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, PR, design, and product teams to align storytelling, tone, and brand intent.
- Concept and pitch new editorial ideas that bring Apple Music’s perspective on artists, genres, and cultural moments to life.
- Stay deeply informed on music and culture trends, understanding how global shifts, new releases, and emerging movements can shape storytelling opportunities.
- Craft clear, persuasive, and emotionally resonant narratives that engage a broad audience while maintaining editorial integrity.
- Review and refine content for tone, accuracy, and alignment with brand standards and inclusive language principles.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or a related field.

5+ years of professional writing and editorial experience at a recognized media, music, or cultural publication.
- Proven ability to craft brand narratives and editorial stories that connect with audiences.
- Strong understanding of storytelling frameworks, positioning strategy, and content development for digital platforms.
- Demonstrated familiarity with music industry marketing, artist campaigns, and fan engagement strategies.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills with an eye for tone, structure, and flow.
- Highly adaptable, able to move quickly between creative ideation and execution in a fast-paced environment.
- Deep knowledge of music history, pop culture, and emerging trends across genres and global markets.
- Proficiency in writing inclusive, accessible content that resonates with diverse audiences.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to partner effectively across marketing, creative, and PR functions.
Preferred:
- Experience developing editorial voice or brand guidelines for a major entertainment or tech company.
- Ability to analyze engagement data and adapt storytelling strategies based on insights.
- Prior experience within music streaming, digital media, or artist marketing environments.
