The Opportunity

We are seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design and development of high-volume consumer electronics products, including wireless security cameras, video doorbells, and other connected devices.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an engineer who enjoys owning products from early concept and mechanical architecture through tooling, pilot builds, and mass production. You’ll solve challenges involving component packaging, injection-molded enclosures, thermal performance, tolerances, environmental protection, manufacturability, cost, and product aesthetics.

You’ll work closely with Industrial Design, Product Marketing, Operations, suppliers, and overseas manufacturing partners to bring new products to market.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead mechanical product development from concept through pilot and high-volume mass production
  • Design plastic and metal enclosures for cameras, connected devices, and other consumer electronics
  • Own detailed mechanical design, including injection-molded plastic parts, component packaging, tolerances, thermal considerations, and DFM
  • Serve as the mechanical technical lead, independently driving design decisions and resolving complex engineering issues
  • Work closely with Industrial Design to balance functionality, manufacturability, cost, and product aesthetics
  • Partner with suppliers, tooling vendors, ODMs, and manufacturing teams to develop components and resolve production issues
  • Support engineering analysis, including tolerance, thermal, and stress analysis
  • Develop mechanical specifications, drawings, documentation, and design requirements
  • Communicate technical decisions, project status, risks, and recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders
  • Support products through tooling, validation, production ramp, and ongoing manufacturing

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
  • 8+ years of mechanical engineering/product design experience, ideally within consumer electronics, smart home, IoT, connected devices, or similar high-volume products
  • Deep hands-on experience designing injection-molded plastic parts and enclosures
  • Demonstrated experience leading mechanical programs and taking ownership of products from development through production
  • Strong and recent 3D CAD experience; Creo/Pro-E is preferred, although SolidWorks and other CAD platforms will be considered
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals, DFM, tooling, tolerance analysis, and high-volume manufacturing
  • Ability to work independently and drive technical problems through resolution
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively across engineering, design, operations, suppliers, and manufacturing teams

Especially Valuable Experience

  • Designing cameras, video doorbells, smart-home devices, or similar enclosed electronics
  • Designing outdoor or weather-resistant enclosures
  • Creo/Pro-E and complex surfacing
  • High-volume consumer products manufactured at significant scale
  • Working directly with ODMs, tooling suppliers, and manufacturing partners in Asia
  • Experience with die casting, adhesives, stamping, machining, sheet metal, and rapid prototyping
  • Mandarin language skills
