We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer III to serve as a subject matter expert for electrical systems supporting a large, mission-critical facility and data center environment. This role combines hands-on electrical engineering with capital project management, providing the opportunity to own projects from design and budgeting through construction and completion.
The ideal candidate has strong experience with commercial or industrial electrical infrastructure, power distribution systems, facility upgrades, and electrical troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical engineering and capital improvement projects for facility repairs, upgrades, and new installations.
- Provide technical support for data center and facility electrical systems, including troubleshooting, system improvements, and design requirements.
- Develop and review electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, equipment requirements, and construction documents using AutoCAD and Revit.
- Support electrical distribution systems ranging from 480V through 12.47kV, including substations and related equipment.
- Manage projects from planning through completion, including scope, budgets, schedules, contractors, technical submittals, equipment delivery, and construction changes.
- Coordinate construction, installation, maintenance, testing, and commissioning activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
- Review equipment and material specifications, bid packages, vendor proposals, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Provide technical guidance to construction teams, maintenance contractors, operations personnel, and less-experienced engineers.
- Ensure electrical designs and installations comply with NEC, NFPA, OSHA, configuration management, and applicable engineering standards.
- Partner with management, operations teams, and government customers to identify and support facility engineering and maintenance needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program required.
- 10 years of electrical engineering experience in large commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or data center environments preferred.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience working with residential, commercial, or industrial electrical systems.
- Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems, NEC, NFPA standards, arc flash hazards, PPE, and OSHA requirements.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical systems and supporting facility or data center infrastructure.
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit; BIM, MS Project, CMMS, and Builder experience highly desirable.
- Experience with PLC/HMI systems, motor drives, substations, or medium-voltage power distribution is preferred.
- PE or EIT certification preferred.
- Strong project management, problem-solving, communication, and contractor/vendor management skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineering, operations, construction, and customer teams.
- Must be comfortable entering confined spaces, accessing electrical equipment, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI government security clearance with polygraph is required.
