Staff Mechanical Engineer

Summary
We are seeking an experienced Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, testing, documentation, and production of high-volume wireless security camera products for retail and small business markets.
In this role, you will serve as a technical leader within the Product Design team, driving mechanical design programs from concept through pilot, mass production, and beyond. You will lead the design and tooling of plastic and metal enclosures for wireless security camera products intended for residential and small to medium office environments.
The successful candidate will have deep consumer electronics and product design experience, strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, and a proven ability to lead complex programs while balancing performance, cost, schedule, manufacturability, and aesthetics. This role will work closely with Industrial Design, Product Marketing, Operations, suppliers, and ODM partners, with manufacturing primarily conducted in Asia.

What You'll Do
- Lead mechanical product design, evaluation, testing, performance validation, documentation, and production activities
- Drive mechanical design programs from concept through pilot, mass production, and ongoing product support
- Design and develop plastic and metal enclosures for high-volume wireless security camera products
- Partner closely with Product Design, Operations, Product Marketing, Industrial Design, and ODM teams to develop new products and customize existing products
- Provide technical leadership to ensure project performance, cost, quality, and schedule objectives are achieved
- Lead issue identification, tracking, troubleshooting, and resolution throughout the product development lifecycle
- Work closely with second- and third-tier suppliers to develop and deliver mechanical components and assemblies
- Manage external consultants, fabrication vendors, and other technical resources as needed
- Perform or support engineering analysis, including thermal, stress, and tolerance analysis
- Develop and maintain mechanical design documentation and specifications
- Apply design-for-manufacturing principles to support high-volume, low-cost production
- Collaborate with manufacturing and ODM partners to address tooling, production, quality, and engineering issues
- Balance mechanical performance and manufacturability with product aesthetics and Industrial Design requirements
- Communicate mechanical design concepts, technical decisions, project status, risks, and recommendations to a diverse group of stakeholders
- Travel internationally as required, approximately 10–15%
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from an accredited university
- 8+ years of experience in product design and/or mechanical engineering within high-end consumer electronics, smart devices, IoT, connected home, or a similar consumer-oriented industry
- Alternatively, 5+ years of relevant experience with a master's degree
- Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals
- Deep experience in consumer electronics and product design
- Proven ability to lead programs, take ownership, and drive complex issues through resolution
- Experience working closely with Industrial Design teams while balancing functionality, aesthetics, and product ecosystems
- Extensive and recent 3D CAD experience, preferably with Creo or SolidWorks; experience with other CAD tools may also be considered
- Recent CAD experience, including complex surfacing, within the last 5 years
- Experience designing cameras or camera-related products
- Advanced expertise in plastic injection-molded part design
- Experience designing outdoor and weatherproof enclosures
- Working knowledge of die casting, adhesives, stamping, machining, and rapid prototyping
- Strong understanding of tolerance analysis
- Experience designing progressive-die sheet metal parts
- Extensive experience designing high-volume, low-cost products with production volumes exceeding 1 million units per year
- Proven experience successfully leading products through pilot, mass production, and beyond
- Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take ownership for delivering results
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical concepts to diverse stakeholders
- Self-starter who works effectively in a collaborative team environment
- Strong sensitivity to product design aesthetics

- Fluency in Mandarin
- Experience working directly with ODM partners and overseas manufacturing teams
- Experience managing external engineering consultants or fabrication vendors
