Mechanical Engineer II – Facilities & Capital Projects

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer II to support the engineering, operation, and improvement of a large, mission-critical facility. This position combines facility engineering, mechanical systems expertise, and project management, with responsibility for capital improvements, renovations, equipment upgrades, and ongoing facility operations.
The ideal candidate has experience with HVAC, plumbing, building automation systems, commercial or industrial facilities, and capital project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute capital projects, facility repairs, renovations, and system upgrades to support safe and efficient operations.
- Serve as a technical resource and Subject Matter Expert for mechanical facility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and related building infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot mechanical systems and provide engineering recommendations for corrective maintenance and long-term improvements.
- Develop mechanical system requirements and support projects from initial concept and design through construction and completion.
- Prepare and review engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, equipment requirements, and construction documents.
- Use AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, and other engineering/design tools to develop drawings and facility models.
- Coordinate construction, installation, maintenance, testing, and commissioning activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
- Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, contractors, technical submittals, equipment deliveries, and design changes.
- Develop equipment and material specifications, bid packages, and technical evaluations; review contractor/vendor proposals and provide award recommendations.
- Provide technical guidance to construction teams, maintenance contractors, operations personnel, and less-experienced engineers.
- Support Building Automation Systems (BAS), energy management, facility decommissioning, and ongoing maintenance initiatives.
- Partner with management and government customers to identify facility engineering, maintenance, and infrastructure needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program required.
- 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience in large commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or similar facility environments preferred.
- 3+ years of project management experience required.
- Hands-on knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, mechanical equipment, and building systems.
- Experience with Revit; AutoCAD, BIM, Navisworks, Civil 3D, and other building design/modeling tools highly desirable.
- Experience with Building Automation Systems/building controls preferred.
- Knowledge of construction means and methods and experience supporting facility renovation or capital improvement projects preferred.
- Strong ability to develop engineering specifications, perform technical calculations, troubleshoot equipment, and evaluate engineering solutions.
- PE and/or PMP certification preferred.
- Strong project management, problem-solving, communication, and contractor/vendor management skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with engineering, maintenance, construction, operations, and customer teams.
- Must be comfortable accessing mechanical equipment and confined spaces and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI government security clearance with polygraph is required.
