As we continue to grow rapidly through a buy-and-build strategy, we are seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Group Financial Controller to join our leadership team. This role presents a unique opportunity to grow into the company’s future CFO as we scale.
Job Overview
The Group Financial Controller will be responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations of the business, supported by local bookkeepers. You will play a crucial role in building out the finance department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, managing budgets, preparing reports for shareholder meetings and leading month-end and year-end closures. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, with a solid understanding of financial management and have the ambition to grow into a strategic CFO role as we scale the company across Europe.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Oversight
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accurate bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable and cash flow management.
- Work closely with local bookkeepers across various regions to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Manage month-end and year-end financial closures, ensuring all accounts are balanced and compliant.
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts and financial models to guide decision-making and support business growth.
- Monitor budget performance, provide variance analyses and work with department heads to manage and control costs.
- Identify areas for financial improvement and cost efficiency across the company.
- Reporting & Shareholder Relations
- Prepare detailed and concise financial reports for monthly and quarterly shareholder meetings.
- Provide timely financial insights and performance analysis to the CEO and board of directors.
- Lead the development of annual financial statements and coordinate audits when necessary.
Building the Finance Department
- Build and scale the finance team to support the company’s expansion and future acquisitions.
- Establish and implement best-in-class financial processes, controls and policies to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Work with external advisors, tax professionals and auditors to ensure all regulatory and tax compliance requirements are met.
Strategic Leadership & Growth
- Partner with the CEO and leadership team to provide strategic financial insights to drive business growth.
- Play a critical role in M&A activity by performing due diligence, financial analysis and integration of new acquisitions.
- Oversee financial risk management, ensuring the company’s financial health and sustainability.
- Set up and manage financial dashboards, KPIs and key financial metrics to monitor company performance.
Key Qualifications & Skills
- Proven Finance Experience: A minimum of 5-7 years in a hands-on financial management role, ideally in a high-growth or fast-paced environment.
- Leadership Skills: Experience in building and leading a finance department, with a hands-on approach to team management and development.
- Financial Expertise: Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
- Reporting & Presentation: Experience in preparing and presenting financial reports to executive teams and shareholders.
- Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with financial systems and tools, including accounting software, ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
- Compliance & Regulation: Strong knowledge of financial and tax regulations in the Netherlands and across Europe, with experience working in a multinational environment being a plus.
- Strategic Mindset: Ambitious and motivated to step into the role of CFO as the company grows.
- Problem-Solver: Ability to think strategically and identify financial risks and opportunities.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Able to communicate financial insights clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience in the travel, hospitality or real estate sectors is a plus.
- Languages: Fluency in English is required. Dutch is a strong advantage, with any additional European languages considered a bonus.
