Vertical Recruitment is currently working with a leading consultancy specialising in commercial and project services to appoint an experienced Associate Director Project Manager. The role will lead the delivery of a high-profile water sector programme across the North West, part of AMP8, comprising 25–30 projects with a combined value of £25–30m over the next two years, delivered as a single integrated team.


Role Overview

As Associate Director Project Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the commercial and project management delivery of the programme. You will lead a team of project managers and other professionals, providing strategic direction, commercial oversight, and governance to ensure successful outcomes. The role requires a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, contract management, and commercial negotiation.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the commercial and project management function across the AMP8 programme, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and mentor a team of project managers, planners, and project controls staff to deliver projects efficiently and effectively.
  • Oversee commercial negotiations, risk management, and resolution of complex project issues.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC suite of contracts, including applying NEC Project Manager principles or equivalent contractual frameworks.
  • Provide strategic guidance on programme delivery, financial management, and performance improvement.
  • Engage with senior stakeholders, clients, and delivery partners to maintain strong relationships and ensure successful outcomes.
  • Lead governance, reporting, and assurance processes for programme delivery.


Key Requirements:

  • Typically 12+ years’ post-chartered experience, ideally as an Area Commercial Manager or equivalent senior role.
  • Degree-level qualification in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or Construction Management.
  • Chartered membership of a relevant institute (RICS, CICES, or equivalent).
  • Proven track record managing teams and delivering complex, multi-project programmes.
  • Strong commercial negotiation and resolution skills, with detailed knowledge of regulatory frameworks.
  • In-depth experience with NEC contracts and NEC Project Manager accreditation or equivalent.
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills.
  • Right to work in the UK.
