Principal Electrical Engineer

Vertical Recruitment is working with a privately owned multi-disciplinary consulting engineering practice that delivers MEP and low-carbon engineering solutions across the UK and internationally. With a strong reputation for sustainability-led design, they work across key sectors including healthcare, education, residential, commercial, industrial and pharmaceutical.


They’re now opening a brand-new Manchester office and looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join them as a founding member. This is a rare opportunity to help shape a new regional team from the ground up — setting the culture, leading projects, building relationships and mentoring others.

The Opportunity


This role is perfect for a Senior or Principal Engineer looking to take the next step in their career with more ownership, autonomy and impact.

You’ll play a hands-on role in delivering technically challenging and meaningful projects, supporting junior staff, and building relationships with new and existing clients across the North West.


Key Responsibilities

  • Act as Project Leader across selected projects from inception to completion
  • Produce high-quality designs, specifications and technical reports
  • Support and guide junior engineers, providing mentorship and leadership
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to deliver integrated solutions
  • Attend design team meetings and represent the business at client presentations
  • Uphold and promote best practice in electrical engineering and sustainable design
  • Help shape the local office’s growth by assisting in recruitment and business development
  • Ensure client satisfaction and contribute to repeat business opportunities


Your Experience & Skills

  • Degree in Electrical or Building Services Engineering (Chartered or working towards preferred)
  • Candidates with HNC/HND and relevant experience also considered
  • 3–4+ years’ post-qualification experience in building services design
  • Software knowledge: Amtech, Relux/Dialux, Revit, Microsoft Office
  • Excellent understanding of current British Standards, Building Regulations and ideally HTMs
  • Knowledge of LV/HV systems, embedded generation, and renewable technologies
  • Working knowledge of BREEAM
  • Appreciation of mechanical systems to coordinate effectively in meetings
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Proactive, organised, and able to lead with confidence
