Senior Structural Engineer – Manchester City Centre


Vertical Recruitment is working with an award-winning employee-owned multidisciplinary consultancy, renowned for its excellence within the civil and structural engineering sector. With offices across the UK, they operate in a variety of sectors including residential, education, commercial, retail, leisure, and historic refurbishment.


This is a unique opportunity to join their Manchester City Centre office and work on high-profile historical refurbishment projects across the North. As an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT), the company shares profits with employees twice yearly, with typical distributions of 12–15% of annual salary. The first £3,600 of each distribution is tax-free.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver structural designs for refurbishment and conservation projects across the North.
  • Undertake structural analysis, design calculations, and the preparation of technical reports.
  • Liaise with clients, architects, contractors, and other consultants to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Provide support and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians.
  • Contribute to project scoping, proposals, and schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with design codes, standards, and company procedures.
  • Promote innovation and sustainable design practices within the team.


Requirements

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng/MEng).
  • Chartered or working towards Chartered status (IStructE/ICE).
  • 4+ years’ experience in structural engineering with a strong technical background.
  • Previous experience in refurbishment, conservation, or heritage projects is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to manage stakeholders and build client relationships.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to manage deadlines and budgets.
  • Enthusiasm for mentoring and supporting junior team members.
