Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer – Manchester

As their workload continues to grow, we now have an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer to join their experienced Engineering Team in Manchester. About the role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be involved in the design, installation, and maintenance of mechanical building services systems that ensure buildings are safe, efficient, and functional. Working as part of a collaborative design team, you will contribute to projects across multiple sectors, liaising with clients, architects, structural engineers, surveyors, and contractors. You will be responsible for delivering design solutions that meet legislative requirements, health and safety standards, and sustainability targets.


Key responsibilities

  • Delivering mechanical design across all project stages, from concept to completion and handover
  • Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery
  • Attending design team and technical meetings to provide mechanical engineering input
  • Ensuring mechanical systems comply with regulations and health and safety standards
  • Advising on sustainable solutions and energy-efficient design
  • Producing specifications and selecting equipment tailored to project requirements
  • Reviewing contractor submissions and undertaking site inspections to monitor installation progress
  • Using industry-standard software including Revit, IES, AutoCAD, and other mechanical simulation tools


Experience and skills required

  • Accredited degree in Building Services or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • 2–4 years’ experience in a consultancy or building services design role
  • Active progression towards chartered engineer status with CIBSE or IMechE is desirable
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams
  • Attention to detail, proactive mindset, and a commitment to high-quality, sustainable design solutions
  • Experience with CAD/BIM software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and IES
