Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Warrington


Vertical Recruitment is proud to be working with a leading independent Building Services and Sustainability consultancy. With over 140 staff across 8 offices in the UK, they deliver engineering solutions across a wide range of sectors – from education and healthcare to large-scale residential developments.


Right now, their Warrington office (one of their largest regional teams) is expanding and looking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to join a technically strong, forward-thinking team working on flagship projects including a £900m hospital development. Their projects range over residential, commercial, healthcare and leisure, including many mixed use development sites including £250m mixed developments, with 500 new apartments, and refurbishments of historical buildings.


The Role - As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll be a self-motivated and technically competent professional with strong project delivery skills. You'll be comfortable working with minimal supervision, taking responsibility for your own workload, supporting junior staff, and maintaining high design standards across a range of projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality mechanical design solutions including system design, specifications, schedules, and reports
  • Act as a key contact for clients and external design teams, attending and contributing to design meetings
  • Collaborate across disciplines to ensure coordinated design and successful project delivery
  • Support and mentor junior engineers, encouraging their development
  • Oversee workload planning and programme delivery, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met
  • Review and approve documentation and drawings prepared by others
  • Ensure compliance with internal Quality Management Systems and ISO procedures
  • Manage multiple projects, including budget and resource planning
  • Conduct site visits and surveys, preparing feasibility and condition reports where required
  • Undertake detailed mechanical calculations and system selections aligned with industry standards
  • Provide technical input to procurement processes including vetting tenders and contractor selections
  • Participate in health and safety reviews, CDM compliance, and project risk assessments
  • Ensure all work complies with legal, environmental, and client requirements


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent HNC/HND with strong experience)
  • Chartered or working towards Chartership with CIBSE or IMechE
  • Proven experience in mechanical design for building services
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, with working knowledge of Revit
