Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Salary: £40,000 - £52,000
A multi-disciplinary building services consultancy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Nottingham office. This is a key role within an established team, offering the opportunity to lead mechanical design on a variety of technically complex and sustainability-focused projects.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will work across a wide range of sectors including healthcare, education, residential, commercial, industrial, and zero-carbon developments. You will be responsible for leading mechanical aspects of projects, managing client relationships, and contributing to the development of junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical engineering design from feasibility to construction stages
- Act as Project Leader on selected schemes and support senior staff across others
- Produce high-quality mechanical designs, specifications, reports and calculations
- Attend and contribute to client and design team meetings
- Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure integrated solutions
- Guide and support junior engineers with technical and project delivery
- Assist with client presentations and project delivery strategy
- Contribute to a culture of continuous technical improvement and innovation
Key Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (or HNC/HND with relevant experience)
- Minimum 3–4 years' experience in mechanical design within the built environment
- Strong knowledge of building services regulations and relevant British/European Standards
- Proficiency in design software including Revit, AutoCAD, Relux/Dialux, Amtech, and Microsoft Office
- Experience working with or awareness of HTMs, HV/LV systems, and renewable technologies
- Understanding of low-carbon and sustainable design principles
- Chartered status or working towards professional membership (e.g. CIBSE)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
