Chartered Structural Engineer – Liverpool


Vertical Recruitment is working with a leading employee-owned multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with offices across the UK. They operate across a diverse range of sectors within the built environment, including residential, education, commercial, historic, retail, and leisure.


The Role: We are seeking a highly experienced Chartered Structural Engineer to join our client’s Liverpool office. This is a unique opportunity for a Senior to Associate-level Structural Engineer with aspirations to progress into a Director position within the next three years. The successful candidate will play a key role in business development, work-winning, and leading the structural design team in Liverpool.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the structural design team in Liverpool, ensuring technical excellence and high-quality project delivery.
  • Drive business development initiatives, win new work, strengthen client relationships, and identify new opportunities for growth.
  • Provide technical expertise and strategic direction across various sectors and property types.
  • Oversee project scoping, proposals, schedules, and fee management for structural engineering projects.
  • Mentor and support the professional development of engineers within the team.
  • Promote innovation, sustainable design practices, and adherence to industry standards and company processes.
  • Manage financial targets, including budgets and profitability, to contribute to business growth.
  • Represent the company at industry events, networking opportunities, and client meetings.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer Status (CEng) with IStructE or ICE.
  • Minimum of 7 years of structural engineering experience with a strong technical background.
  • Proven track record in project management, contract administration, and cost analysis.
  • Experience in work-winning, business development, and client relationship management.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop engineers.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience working on all project phases (Concept, Tender, Detailed, and Construction) across various contractual environments (D&B, Novation, Traditional).
  • Commercial awareness, with the ability to manage budgets and drive profitability.
