About the Role
Our client is seeking a Senior HMI & SCADA Systems Engineer to own our Ignition-based SCADA platform across automated distribution and logistics facilities. This is a high-visibility role where you will serve as the internal expert their operations teams rely on and the primary technical voice accountable for holding major system integrators to their standards.
You will build and govern HMI standards, drive legacy platform migrations, and use Emulate3D to validate control logic through virtual commissioning before systems go live. Strong communication and the confidence to push back on vendors are as important as technical depth in this role.
Strong Ignition experience is at the heart of what our client needs here. Someone who has actually built and deployed, not just worked around it. Emulate3D is part of the picture too, but they are not hunting for a subject matter expert. They want someone who has done real virtual commissioning work on live projects, not someone who pulled it out for a demo or a sales conversation.
Location: Remote
Travel: 20-30%
Compensation: 120k-150k
Key Responsibilities
Ignition / SCADA Platform
• Own and govern our Ignition SCADA platform including architecture, templates, UDTs, alarm pipelines, and visual standards
• Lead migration projects from legacy HMI platforms to Ignition
• Ensure consistency in operator experience and system reliability across facilities
Virtual Commissioning (Emulate3D)
• Build PLC-based emulation models to validate control logic, device interaction, and alarm behavior prior to deployment
• Execute virtual commissioning engagements
• Document and resolve pre-deployment issues to reduce commissioning risk
Integrator Accountability & Collaboration
• Serve as the primary technical interface with major automation system integrators
• Hold integrators accountable to HMI/SCADA standards, communicate expectations clearly and escalate when necessary
• Partner with internal engineering, operations, and IT teams across project delivery
• Contribute to documentation, standards governance, and internal training
Required Qualifications
• 5+ years of hands-on Ignition HMI development and deployment with enterprise SCADA architecture experience, not just screen-level builds
• Strong PLC background across development, deployment, and troubleshooting on Allen-Bradley
• Emulate3D experience in virtual commissioning contexts with the ability to speak to specific project outcomes
• Demonstrated ability to communicate directly with external vendors and integrators and hold them accountable to technical standards
• Track record of leading technical projects in cross-functional, multi-stakeholder environments
• Experience in large-scale distribution, logistics, or warehouse automation environments
• Familiarity with major material handling system integrators and their control system ecosystems
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or equivalent field experience
What It Takes to Succeed in This Role
The technical qualifications get you in the door. These are the traits that determine whether you thrive here.
• You communicate with clarity and confidence across all levels, from internal peers and senior leadership to vendor engineers and third-party integrators
• You are collaborative by nature and understand that keeping projects on schedule requires bringing people along, not just knowing the right answer
• You take ownership of outcomes, not just tasks. When something is off-track, you identify it early, raise it clearly, and drive it to resolution
• You are comfortable in the field. This role requires presence on site and the ability to operate effectively in active facility environments during commissioning and go-live phases
