Technical Project Manager – Capital Equipment
Location: Auburn, Massachusetts (On-Site)
Travel: Approximately 10% Domestic Travel (Occasional International)
Reports To: Project Management Manager
Compensation: $80,000 – $110,000 Base DOE + Performance Bonus
About the Role
We are seeking a Technical Project Manager to support the quotation, execution, and delivery of custom capital equipment projects for the pulp & paper and industrial manufacturing industries. This role is ideal for an engineer or technically-minded project manager who enjoys working across sales, engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, service, and customers to bring complex equipment projects from concept through installation and final acceptance.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop detailed capital equipment quotations utilizing technical specifications, engineering input, and customer requirements.
• Prepare project cost estimates and support pricing strategies to achieve margin objectives.
• Manage capital equipment projects from quotation through installation and final customer acceptance.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned projects.
• Coordinate activities across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Service, and Customer Service.
• Track schedules, budgets, margins, and project deliverables.
• Lead weekly project status reviews and communicate schedule or margin deviations.
• Coordinate Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) activities as required.
• Support customer meetings and occasional site visits during project execution.
What You'll Manage
• 25–50 active projects simultaneously.
• Project values ranging from $20,000 to $1M+.
• $1M–$2M in active project portfolio responsibility.
• Average project lead times of approximately 14 weeks from approved drawings through shipment.
Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Pulp & Paper Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to understand engineered equipment systems.
• Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
Preferred:
• 2–8 years of experience in project management, applications engineering, process engineering, manufacturing engineering, or capital equipment delivery.
• Experience with pulp & paper, converting, industrial processing, OEM equipment, automation, or custom machinery.
• Exposure to project costing, estimating, or quotation development.
