About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-established organization in the midst of maturing a robust, cloud-first security program. They are operating nearly 100% in the cloud with AWS as the primary platform. Over the past year, they've made significant strides in governance, tooling, and modernization, with active initiatives spanning infrastructure as code, platform engineering, and AI adoption across the enterprise.

This is a high-visibility, high-impact role that sits at the intersection of Cloud Security, Enterprise Security, and Application Security. The Cloud Security Engineer will own the cloud security domain end-to-end, not as an auditor, but as a trusted partner embedded early in design and deployment conversations across the organization.

Location: Remote

*This role is not available for candidates who require sponsorship now or some time in the future*

What You'll Do

  • Take end-to-end ownership of the Cloud Security domain across a mature, AWS-native environment
  • Partner closely with Infrastructure, DevOps, Platform Engineering, and Application teams to drive security architecture from the ground up
  • Challenge designs, identify risk, and collaborate with teams to implement pragmatic, scalable solutions
  • Define and build security guardrails, policies, and controls within AWS and across deployment pipelines
  • Be present and involved early: when teams are deploying Terraform, spinning up containers in EKS, or designing new services, you're in the room
  • Bridge technical and business conversations, communicating what needs to be done and why to both engineers and leadership
  • Interact cross-functionally with Incident Response, Application Security, Platform Engineering, Infrastructure, and DevOps teams
  • Contribute to the organization's growing infra as code and automation strategy

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in cloud security, security architecture, or a related discipline
  • Practical, hands-on AWS knowledge: you can walk through multi-account architecture, explain IAM strategies, and build guardrails, not just describe them
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure as code, particularly Terraform, and how security fits into deployment pipelines
  • Experience with containerization and EKS security considerations
  • Ability to operate independently, challenge teams constructively, and drive security outcomes without being a bottleneck
  • Comfort moving fluidly between deep technical discussions and executive-level conversations
  • A collaborative, authentic mindset: you speak up when you see risk and you treat security as a business enabler, not a gatekeeper

Preferred

  • AWS Solutions Architect Professional certification or CISSP (or equivalent, something that demonstrates investment in the craft)
  • Experience with Azure is a plus; cloud security concepts are transferable and AWS experience is preferred
  • Familiarity with AI and its security implications. The team is growing in this space and values curiosity

Why This Role

This is not a checkbox security role. The organization wants someone who shows up, engages, and leads. They need someone who can sit across from an engineering team and challenge their architecture, then turn around and brief leadership on the risk landscape. Security here has a seat at the table, and they're looking for someone ready to fill it.

The position is contract-to-hire with a clear path to a permanent role for the right candidate.
