A notable pastry/coffee brand seeks a consulting R&D Chef to help develop seasonal recipes for their Los Angeles brand. The R&D Chef drives the development and refinement of new product ideas, leveraging culinary expertise and innovative thinking. This role contributes to complex culinary projects, develops concepts and techniques, and acts independently to execute assignments.
This is a temporary 3 month assignment with the possibility of an additional 3 months.
Responsibilities
- Culinary Innovation
- Drive the ideation, development, and execution of new food products, flavors, and recipes that align with the company’s mission, contributing to the development of concepts and techniques
- Develop, refine and document precise recipes, including ingredient specifications, cooking techniques and portion guidelines for both new and existing products
- Cook, Cut, and Prep food products as needed for recipe testing, equipment testing
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all recipes and formulas
- Create recipe cards, training videos and other training materials for new menu roll outs
- Create and test various recipes and variations of recipes including prep, cook, and service procedures to clearly communicate new menu items, iterating as necessary from in-store feedback to facilitate fleet-wide launch
- Collaborate with marketing, operations, and the brand founder
- Document and shares test results with appropriate stakeholders
- Make recommendations for new procedures or process improvements within the team.
- Travel to stores to train staff
Requirements:
- Candidates must have prior R&D culinary experience (at least 1-2 years)
- Must have experience creating, documenting and training new menu items
- Must be entrepreneurial and able to work autonomously while also be open to feedback and insight from other departments
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be comfortable creating and costing recipes with a high attention to detail.
This is an hourly role and will bill as a 1099 consultant. As a consultant there are no employee benefits.
