Job Description


Department: Engineering

Reports To: CTO

Location: El Segundo, CA

Shift: Day

FLSA Status: Full-Time, Exempt


Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee engineering development, design, and technical integration of autonomous aerial vehicles.

• Partner with customers and internal stakeholders to define system requirements and ensure successful project execution.

• Drive technical strategy while contributing to overall business strategy and technology direction.

• Lead technical reviews such as system functional reviews, preliminary design, critical design review, and functional configuration audits.

• Analyze and validate requirements to ensure feasibility and alignment with corporate goals.

• Oversee validation activities such as ground acceptance testing, system acceptance testing, HIL/SIL, and flight acceptance testing.

• Identify trade-offs between short- and long-term gains with a deep understanding of customer needs and technical choices.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into technical specifications.

• Foster a collaborative culture focused on employee engagement, innovation, and continuous improvement.

• Ensure the identification and analysis of non-conformities identified during validation.

• Support the development of interface definitions, system schematics, and system design documentation.

• Create control features to ensure systems effectively meet quality standards.

Manage Flight House, including project progression, requirement delivery, and system alignment, as well as overseeing Flight House deliveries.

Note: There is no dedicated Systems Engineering team to manage in this role.


Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or related field).

• 8+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.

• Experience in the Defense, Aerospace, and/or Automotive industry.

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide multidisciplinary teams.

• Proficiency in all phases of Systems Engineering design: ConOps, requirements development/management, software/system architecture, system integration and test, verification and validation (IEEE/ISO/IEC 15288).

• Experience with system engineering tools such as JAMA, DOORs, VISURE, and JIRA.

• Proficiency in program management tools like Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Asana, and JIRA.

• Prior functional engineering management experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment.

• Experience leading system-level risk analysis (FMEA) and implementing reliability measures.

• Familiarity with system simulation software such as PSpice, MATLAB, Simulink, etc.

• Ability to acquire and maintain a U.S. DoD Secret Clearance or higher.
