Staffing and Resource Management

• Allocate and adjust staffing: Monitor unit-by-unit patient census, employee sick calls, and patient acuity to reallocate nurses and care personnel where they are needed most.
• Manage shift coverage: Coordinate 24/7 staffing schedules and handle unexpected absences or surges.

Patient Flow and Care Oversight

• Oversee patient placement: Manage the smooth admission, transfer, and discharge flow of patients in and out of the emergency department, medical-surgical floors, and critical care units.
• Support clinical teams: Act as an expert clinical resource, mentor new nurses, and assist with complex or deteriorating patient situations.

Emergency Response

• Respond to emergencies: Answer overhead emergency calls, such as Code Blues, Rapid Responses, or STAT calls, and ensure proper personnel are deployed.

Administration and Compliance

• Act as administrator on-duty: Make high-level administrative and operational decisions when senior executives or department directors are off-site.
• Enforce policies and safety standards: Ensure nursing staff and departments comply with local healthcare regulations, hospital policies, and safety protocols.
• Handle communications: Liaise with physicians, patient families, security, and administrative management regarding incidents, complaints, or critical updates.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

• Essential life support certifications
• Active California License
