About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our mental health crisis response team. This role is pivotal in providing immediate mental health support and intervention for individuals and families experiencing acute emotional or psychological distress. Working closely with emergency department staff, the successful candidate will assess, support, and manage crisis situations, ensuring effective referral and follow-up within hospital or community settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver calming and targeted mental health responses to individuals in crisis within the emergency department.
Conduct thorough assessments, coordinating with families, caregivers, and referring sources to identify urgent needs.
Develop and implement crisis management plans, including psychiatric consultations and referrals to appropriate treatment programs.
Provide crisis intervention strategies and support to individuals, staff, and community groups as needed.
Act as a liaison, offering advice and support to other emergency departments regarding available services.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care and support for patients.
Facilitate admissions and referrals to inpatient units and community resources.
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and participate in case conferences.
Serve as an educational resource on mental health topics for various groups and professionals.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with significant clinical experience or a Diploma in Nursing with extensive clinical experience.
Experience in mental health assessment, treatment, and case management across diverse patient demographics and settings.
Current registration or eligibility for registration with the local nursing college.
Professional certification in a related specialization, such as CNA certification.
Training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, Suicide Risk Assessment Intervention, and Violence Risk Assessment.
Familiarity with DSM-5, Mental Health Act, and crisis intervention protocols.
Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
