What You’ll Do:

Relate Search has partnered with a leading organization in the consumer health and wellness sector in their search for a Principal Product Development Engineer. This role is a key driver in designing novel confectionary-based OTC drug and supplement products. The successful candidate will translate consumer needs into robust, line-ready formulations, lead the product development process, and mentor junior scientists. This position requires strong technical expertise, collaboration across functions, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.


Responsibilities:

• Seek and evaluate new ingredients and technologies to develop unique product offerings in confectionary OTC and supplement markets.

• Translate consumer needs into finished products, ensuring robust formulations and technical rigor.

• Prepare and analyze product samples, conducting physical and sensory evaluations to support development decisions.

• Execute Design of Experiments (DOEs), analyze data, and provide sound technical recommendations.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with quality, procurement, supply chain, and manufacturing to resolve development challenges.


Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical science, chemical engineering, food science, chemistry, or related field.

• 10+ years’ experience in product development engineering, science, or related function.

• Demonstrated expertise in confectionary manufacturing, cGMP, and GLP practices.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, ERP systems, and statistical analysis methods.

• Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring abilities with experience guiding junior scientists.


Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in food science, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related field.

• Experience in formulation or product development of OTC, dietary supplements, or food products.

• Background in developing and commercializing oral drug products under US regulatory frameworks.

• Experience with FDA, NSF, and regulatory compliance in product development.

• Proficiency with statistical software (e.g., Minitab, Statgraphics) to analyze and interpret data.
