Software Engineering Manager (SaaS Product)

This is a successful, growing SaaS fintech with 200+ employees that has scaled rapidly and is now at the point where software engineering needs stronger structure, sharper prioritisation and clearer alignment to what actually drives value.


They are moving away from a model where work is largely reactive and flowing in from multiple directions, and instead building a more deliberate, commercially aligned software engineering function.

To support this shift, they are introducing a Software Engineering Manager.


The Role

This role sits directly between the Head of Engineering and the existing Software Team Leads.

You will take ownership of multiple software engineering squads and bring structure to how application and platform development work is prioritised, planned and delivered.


You will:

  • Lead multiple software engineering squads through Team Leads across platform and product development
  • Own prioritisation of application development work, focusing on what will have the biggest impact on the product and customer outcomes
  • Shift the team away from reactive ticket-driven work towards more deliberate, value-driven software delivery
  • Work closely with Product to balance roadmap delivery, bug fixes and future platform evolution
  • Bring a stronger commercial lens into software engineering decisions
  • Provide clarity and direction to Team Leads, ensuring consistent execution across squads


This is not an infrastructure, DevOps or platform operations role. It is focused on software engineering and product development.


What They Are Looking For

  • Experience leading multiple software engineering teams or squads within a SaaS or product environment
  • Strong background in application or platform development, not infrastructure or IT operations
  • Experience working within modern SaaS product environments, with strong exposure to backend technologies such as Java or similar object-oriented languages. Familiarity with cloud-based architectures and scalable platform design is highly desirable
  • Strong prioritisation capability across product, bugs and technical work
  • Commercial awareness, understanding how engineering effort impacts product and revenue
  • Experience partnering closely with Product on roadmap execution
  • Comfortable stepping into a scaling environment and bringing structure to engineering
  • Strong stakeholder management with the ability to challenge and influence direction

This is not a traditional Engineering Manager role focused purely on people leadership.


The key driver here is prioritisation and impact across software engineering.


The business has been operating reactively and now needs someone who can step in, assess what matters most, and ensure engineering effort is directed towards the work that will move the product forward.


You will play a central role in shaping how software engineering operates as the company scales.
