Fit Technician | Global Fashion Retailer | Onsite (Montreal-based) | $70k - $100k + Bonus (10%)

The Company

They are a fashion-focused organization with a strong emphasis on product quality, fit, and consistency across their apparel collections. Their teams work collaboratively across design, technical development, production, and external manufacturing partners to bring garments from concept through to final production.

They are looking for a technically skilled Fit Technician who can help ensure each product delivers the intended silhouette, comfort, construction, and overall aesthetic while maintaining efficient communication throughout the development cycle.

The Role

Reporting to the Director of Technical Design & Fitting, the Fit Technician will oversee the fit and technical development of apparel styles from initial samples through production. They will partner closely with Design, Product Development, and manufacturing teams to translate creative concepts into commercially viable garments.

The successful candidate will combine a strong understanding of garment construction and pattern development with a highly detail-oriented approach to fitting, measurement, sample evaluation, and production follow-through.

The Responsibilities:

Fit & Product Development

  • Conduct garment fittings and provide technical recommendations to achieve the intended silhouette, proportions, and overall appearance.
  • Collaborate with Design throughout seasonal development to translate creative direction into accurate fit and construction.
  • Establish, document, and continuously refine fit standards across product categories.
  • Review garments through each development milestone, from initial prototypes and development samples through pre-production, size sets, and production samples.
  • Assess garments on fit models and identify adjustments required to achieve the desired result.
  • Build and maintain standardized pattern blocks to improve efficiency and consistency throughout product development.
  • Identify potential fit concerns early and recommend practical solutions before they impact production.

Technical Design

  • Create technical documentation for new styles, including measurements, grading specifications, technical sketches, and construction details.
  • Prepare comprehensive tech packs containing the information required by manufacturing partners to accurately execute each style.
  • Document garment specifications relating to fabrics, yarns, finishing, care instructions, labeling, packaging, measurements, and grading.
  • Maintain accurate technical records throughout the lifecycle of each style.
  • Ensure specifications remain consistent and production-ready as garments progress through development.

Sample & Factory Management

  • Inspect and measure incoming samples before fittings to verify that they have been produced according to the latest specifications.
  • Work directly with manufacturing partners throughout the development process to address technical and fit-related requirements.
  • Communicate corrections and technical expectations clearly to factories and ensure feedback is incorporated into subsequent samples.
  • Provide detailed fit and workmanship comments supported by photographs, sketches, pattern adjustments, and other visual references when appropriate.
  • Update technical documentation following fit sessions and sample revisions.
  • Investigate and resolve issues involving fit, fabric, yarn, construction, or sample quality.
  • Collaborate with Design and other internal stakeholders to develop solutions when product issues arise.
  • Monitor sample approvals, specifications, timelines, and associated logistics to keep development on schedule.
  • Review final samples against established quality and fit standards before approval.

The Requirements:

  • 5+ years of professional experience within the apparel or fashion industry.
  • Post-secondary education in Fashion Design, Technical Design, or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience with garment fitting, fit corrections, and technical product development.
  • Strong knowledge of pattern making and garment construction.
  • Experience using PAD pattern-making software; knowledge of LECTRA or comparable systems is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience working with Bamboo Rose or similar apparel/product development platforms.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a methodical approach to technical work.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple styles and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with designers, suppliers, manufacturers, and internal stakeholders.
  • French or English proficiency is required for regular communication with suppliers, colleagues, and business partners, including stakeholders inside and outside Quebec.

Candidates who bring a strong technical understanding of apparel development, a sharp eye for fit, and experience working directly with manufacturing partners are encouraged to apply. This is an opportunity to play a hands-on role in shaping product quality from initial concept through to production while working alongside cross-functional fashion and product teams.
