Chief Inspector, Natural Gas Interconnect & Metering Facility

Location: North Carolina

Duration: 4+ months

Overview

We are seeking a Chief Inspector to lead field inspection on a new natural gas interconnect and metering facility project, encompassing metering, filtration, odorization, yard piping, communications integration, and a hot-tap tie-in connection. This is the senior on-site inspection authority, responsible for quality, safety, and code compliance, and the primary point of contact between the inspection team, contractor, and client.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Direct discipline inspectors (civil, mechanical, E&I, welding/NDE, coatings); run progress meetings; serve as escalation point for field issues and non-conformances
  • Facility Construction: Oversee metering, filtration, and odorization equipment installation and testing; monitor yard piping fabrication, welding, and coating; oversee communications/SCADA installation and commissioning
  • Hot-Tap & Tie-In: Provide direct oversight of hot-tap and tie-in connections — procedure review, contractor qualifications, equipment setup, execution, and safe sequencing
  • Quality & Compliance: Verify work against approved drawings, specifications, and applicable code (49 CFR 192, ASME B31.8); review weld/NDE reports; track non-conformances; maintain daily reports, redlines, and as-built documentation
  • Safety: Enforce HSE programs; participate in job hazard analyses; stop-work authority

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years pipeline/facility construction inspection, including prior Chief/lead inspector experience
  • Direct experience with gas metering station construction and hot-tap/tie-in inspection
  • Working knowledge of 49 CFR 192, ASME B31.8, and API standards
  • Strong documentation and redline drawing skills; CWI and OSHA 10/30 a plus
  • Valid driver's license; able to travel to site and work outdoors in varied conditions
