About the Senior Pastor

The Senior Pastor serves as the primary spiritual leader and shepherd of the congregation. He provides visionary leadership, biblical teaching, and pastoral care to equip the church to fulfill its mission of making disciples and advancing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Senior Pastor oversees church staff, leads the congregation through preaching and discipleship, and partners with elders and ministry leaders to develop a healthy, growing church community.

The Senior Pastor‘s responsibilities include:

Preaching and Teaching

  • Prepare and deliver biblical, Spirit-led, and relevant sermons each week.
  • Plan a preaching series aligned with the church’s mission and vision.
  • Lead and teach through Bible studies, discipleship classes, and special services.
  • Ensure all teaching and doctrine align with Scripture and the church’s statement of faith.

Spiritual Leadership

  • Provide overall spiritual direction for the church.
  • Lead by example in personal devotion, prayer, humility, and integrity.
  • Guide the congregation in spiritual growth, evangelism, and service.
  • Encourage a culture of worship, prayer, and biblical community.

Pastoral Care

  • Shepherd and care for members through visitation, counseling, and prayer.
  • Officiate weddings, funerals, baptisms, and other significant church ceremonies.
  • Equip and empower ministry volunteers to serve effectively.

Leadership and Administration

  • Lead and supervise pastoral staff and ministry leaders.
  • Work collaboratively with the Elder Board and ministry teams in decision-making and vision planning.
  • Ensure effective communication and alignment across all ministries.
  • Oversee church operations and long-range planning (with elders and staff).

Community and Outreach

  • Represent the church in the local community and cultivate relationships with other pastors and ministries.
  • Encourage evangelism, missions, and community service.
  • Be visible and active in community life as a representative of Christ and the church.

What you bring

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Senior Pastor:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bible, Theology, or Ministry.
  • Minimum of 5 years of pastoral ministry experience, including preaching and leadership. 
  • Proven ability to lead a multi-staff team and develop ministry leaders.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Visionary leader who can cast and execute mission-driven goals.
