Meet Northwest Christian Church

Northwest Christian Church is a warm, vibrant, and loving community in Acworth, Georgia, where you’ll feel right at home the moment you walk through our doors. Since our beginnings in 1971, we’ve grown into a family that balances the best of a medium-sized church—deep relationships and a true sense of belonging—with the welcoming atmosphere of a smaller congregation. We are deeply committed to welcoming outsiders, thanks to a genuine culture of hospitality that starts with our leadership and extends to everyone you meet. On the weekends, you’ll find high-quality contemporary worship and substantive, deep biblical preaching. We’re an active congregation, with nearly 70% of our attendees involved in ministry, and we are proud to serve our local community through one of the area’s largest food banks, which we recently expanded to serve our neighbors three days a week.

About the Senior Pastor

The Lead Pastor serves as the primary spiritual leader, teacher, shepherd, and organizational leader of Northwest Christian Church. Working in partnership with the Elders, the Lead Pastor provides vision, direction, and oversight for the congregation, staff, ministries, and overall mission of the church.

The Senior Pastor's responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the primary preacher and teacher of the church, preparing biblically accurate and relevant sermons.
  • Provide biblical, Christ-centered leadership, modeling Christian character, integrity, and servant leadership.
  • Work with the Elders to establish, communicate, and execute the church's vision.
  • Provide supervision, consistent structure, clear objectives, performance reviews, and positive affirmation for the church staff.
  • Establish the annual operating budget with input from other staff and Ministry Team Leaders and present to the Elders for approval.
  • Update the Employee Handbook and staff job descriptions annually as necessary.
  • Provide pastoral care, shepherding to staff, visitation, and conduct pre-marital counseling, weddings, and funerals.

What you bring

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Senior Pastor:

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in biblical, ministerial, or relevant studies is required; a Master’s degree (MDiv or equivalent) is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of ministry experience is required. Must have proven experience leading and managing a multi-staff church environment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Preaching Depth: A "teacher in the pulpit" who preaches from the biblical text and handles complex theological truths but applies them practically to daily life.
  • Systems Mindset: Capable of evaluating inefficiencies, defining job descriptions, implementing consistent reporting structures, and making decisive "buck-stops-here" decisions.
  • Vision Implementation: The ability to not only cast an exciting vision but also provide clear "A, B, C" operational execution steps to lead the staff and congregation toward that vision.
  • Leader of Leaders: A strong, low-ego delegator who empowers a high-performing creative staff to work in their respective spaces while providing consistent feedback and affirmation.

Personal Characteristics and Qualifications

  • Generational Bridge: An "old soul" who naturally connects across multiple generations—respecting and shepherding long-term senior members while actively engaging the growing young family demographic.
  • Relatability & Community Presence: Approachable, authentic, and "real." A pastor who wants to "get in the trenches" and be actively visible in local community life.
