About the Senior Pastor:

We are searching for a senior minister for the Scarsdale Community Baptist Church (SCBC), in Scarsdale New York. We seek a pastor who will lead us individually and corporately to live out Jesus’ command to Love the Lord, care for our Neighbors, and to fulfill the Great Commission. We seek an individual who can join us on our journey to develop a closer relationship with God through prayer, Bible study, worship, fellowship, and service to the community, which is the SCBC Official Statement of Purpose.

We are looking for a senior minister who can build upon the strengths of the congregation and to help the church grow in commitment and in numbers. We are looking for an inspiring preacher, a pastor who will care for each of the sheep in the flock, a teacher who will teach from the scripture, and we are also looking for a leader. One who leads by example and can disciple others, bringing about a spiritual renewal that is not only transformative to the members and attenders of SCBC but manifests itself in serving others and sharing the Gospel outside our four walls and into the larger community.

The Senior Pastor will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our church. This person will be a visionary leader who sets clear short- and long-term goals while remaining grounded in our core values.

The Senior Pastor's Responsibilities Include: 

• Spiritual Leadership — Delivering engaging and insightful sermons on Sundays, leading weekly Bible studies and prayer meetings, and providing guidance and inspiration for the congregation's faith journey.
• Worship Experience — Overseeing Sunday service planning, supervising the worship director, and ensuring a welcoming and uplifting worship environment.
• Christian Education & Discipleship — Fostering a deep understanding of the Bible and Christian theology by leading Bible studies, new believer classes, and overseeing membership classes or discipleship programs.
• Pastoral Care & Outreach — Building strong connections with members through visitations, working with deacons on caring ministries, and offering pastoral support during challenging times.
• Church Growth & Community Engagement — Develop and implement strategies to attract new members, cultivate a welcoming environment for visitors, and build connections within the local community.
• Leadership & Administration — Provide strong leadership to the church staff, attend board and committee meetings (meeting monthly), and oversee the overall operations of the church.
• Stewardship & Development — Effectively manage church resources, lead stewardship initiatives, and cultivate a culture of generous giving.

What You Bring: 

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Senior Pastor:

Education & Experience

• 5+ years experience in pastoral ministry (including some as a Senior Pastor)
• MDiv or equivalent
• Ordained in a Protestant denomination (practicing believer’s baptism)
• Preferred minimum age 42

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Organizational skills 
• Ability to manage multiple priorities
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to build strong relationships
• Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans for church growth
