What it's like to live in Newark, OH
Newark, Ohio, is a mid-sized city of about 50,000 people, located just 40 miles east of Columbus. Known for its family-oriented atmosphere and slower pace of life compared to larger cities, Newark offers a modest cost of living that appeals to families, retirees, and professionals alike. The community is largely stable, with many long-term residents, yet also welcoming to newcomers. Education is supported by the Newark City School District as well as local higher-education institutions like Ohio State University–Newark and Central Ohio Technical College.
The local economy is anchored by major employers such as Licking Memorial Hospital, Park National Bank, Owens Corning, and Packaging Corporation of America, with healthcare, manufacturing, and finance driving much of the job market. Many are drawn here for the affordability, strong sense of community, and convenient access to metro Columbus.
Altogether, Newark offers a balanced lifestyle: access to education and career opportunities, proximity to Columbus, and a community with historic roots and room to grow. It’s a place where families can thrive, workers can find opportunity without the congestion and costs of a big city, and residents can enjoy a welcoming, close-knit environment.
