The community is largely stable, with many long-term residents, yet also welcoming to newcomers. Education is supported by the Newark City School District as well as local higher-education institutions like Ohio State University–Newark and Central Ohio Technical College.

The local economy is anchored by major employers such as Licking Memorial Hospital, Park National Bank, Owens Corning, and Packaging Corporation of America, with healthcare, manufacturing, and finance driving much of the job market.
