First Colony Church is a dynamic faith family of about 2000 members with a deep desire to honor God in all we do and lead people into a growing relationship with Him. First Colony Church of Christ, located in Sugar Land, Texas, is a vibrant, welcoming community committed to growing together in faith. The church offers a variety of services, including Sunday worship at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., as well as Bible classes and a strong focus on outreach programs. About the Children’s Minister
The Children’s Minister provides overall vision, leadership, and direction for ministry to children (birth through 5th grade) and their families. Success in this role depends on the ability to manage, empower, and inspire both staff and volunteer teams. This highly relational position requires strong skills in leadership, organization, communication, innovation, and pastoral care. The Primary purpose and function of the role is to develop and lead an effective discipleship program that partners with parents to nurture children into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. The Children’s Minister will implement ministry programs for children and families that reflect the GATHER, GROW, GO vision of First Colony Church of Christ.

The Children’s Minister’s responsibilities include:
Children’s Ministry Programs
-  Design, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive Children’s Ministry program that aligns with the church’s overall vision.
-  Oversee all Sunday morning and Wednesday evening programs for children from birth through 5th grade.
- Ensure grade-level and same-sex small groups are staffed with trained leaders and provided with all necessary resources.
-  Provide training, encouragement, and equipping for Children’s Ministry volunteers.
-  Collaborate with other organizations using the building (including Cornerstone Christian Academy) to ensure positive relationships and effective shared-space use.
- Plan and administer the Children’s Ministry budget responsibly and effectively.
Communication
-  Communicate consistently with parents and families through email, text, social media, newsletters, and other platforms.
-  Build and maintain strong, healthy, professional relationships with ministry teams, staff members, and church leadership.
-  Provide parents with resources and opportunities to disciple their children at home.
Supervisory Leadership
- Uphold standards of conduct and ministry excellence for both staff and volunteers.
-  Oversee volunteer recruitment, training, and screening, maintaining a strong child protection and safety policy.
-  Train and lead staff members within the Children’s Ministry.

Events & Special Programs
- Lead the Children’s Ministry Leadership Team in planning and executing special events.
- Evaluate, refine, and oversee major annual programs such as Vacation Bible School, summer camps, and Pumpkin Patch Party.
- Create new opportunities for outreach that welcome new families into the life of the church.
Pastoral Care
- Be available and equipped to provide pastoral care to children, parents, and volunteers as needed.
-  Support families during times of crisis and celebrate with them during milestones.

Education and Experience
- A bachelor’s Degree in Bible or a related field is required

-  A servant-hearted leader with the ability to cast vision and inspire staff and volunteers.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to design and implement effective, repeatable ministry systems.
- Effective communication skills across multiple platforms (in person, email, text, social media, etc.).
- Ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
- Conflict resolution skills and the ability to listen with grace to members’ concerns.
- A deep passion for children’s ministry and for building programs that foster strong spiritual foundations in children.

- Sunday and Wednesday programs are consistently well-staffed, well-led, and spiritually impactful for children.
- Parents feel supported, equipped, and partnered within the discipleship of their children.
- Volunteers are recruited, trained, encouraged, appreciated, and retained, creating a strong, sustainable ministry team
- Special events (VBS, camps, seasonal programs) are well-planned, executed with excellence, and serve both the church and the community.
- Communication with families is regular, clear, and encouraging, keeping them connected and informed.
- Children are growing in their knowledge of Scripture, love for Jesus, and engagement in the church’s Gather, Grow, Go vision.
- The ministry operates with financial responsibility, clear systems, and a culture of safety and protection for every child.
