Machine Tool Pipefitter

Long term contract with OT and benefits


Position Summary

Comau is seeking a skilled Pipefitter to support the build, installation, and maintenance of piping systems for industrial automation and machine tools at our Novi, MI facility and customer sites. The Pipefitter will be responsible for measuring, cutting, bending, assembling, and installing pipe systems for air, water, hydraulic, and pneumatic applications, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, assemble, and install piping systems for automation equipment, machine tools, and robotic cells.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and piping schematics to execute accurate installations.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes using hand tools, power tools, and pipe-bending equipment.
  • Install and connect valves, fittings, hydraulic/pneumatic lines, and related components.
  • Test piping systems for leaks and proper functionality.
  • Collaborate with electricians, machine builders, and engineers to ensure systems are integrated properly.
  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on existing piping systems.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and OSHA standards.
  • Travel to customer sites for equipment installation and support as required.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or apprenticeship in pipefitting, plumbing, or a related trade preferred.
  • 3+ years of pipefitting experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or automation environment.
  • Strong knowledge of piping materials, fittings, valves, and installation practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret piping schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Skilled in using hand tools, pipe cutters, threading machines, and welding/brazing equipment.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in complex piping systems.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites (domestic and international).


Preferred Skills

  • Experience in automotive automation or machine tool environments.
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills (TIG/MIG preferred).
  • Knowledge of industrial safety codes and OSHA regulations.
  • Forklift and overhead crane operation experience.
