Engineering Technician
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Shift: 2nd shift (starts at 2:30pm)
Pay: $26–28/hour
Long term contract to hire
Job Summary
As an Engineering Technician, you’ll support our engineering team with technical tasks, testing, and troubleshooting, especially in Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) production. You’ll help keep our equipment running and our processes efficient, while ensuring quality and safety.
What You'll Do
- Support Engineers:
- Help design and improve projects and processes for SMT and PCBA.
- Assist with drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Research and troubleshoot SMT manufacturing issues.
- Testing & Measuring:
- Run tests and collect data on PCBA components and SMT systems.
- Analyze results for quality and standards compliance.
- Recommend and assist with improvements based on test results.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Set up, operate, and maintain SMT machines (like Mycronic and Fuji NXT).
- Handle, calibrate, and maintain equipment such as paste printers (Ekra or MPM), solder paste inspection systems (Koh Young), AOI (Koh Young), and convection reflow ovens (BTU Pyramax is a plus).
- Perform troubleshooting and routine maintenance on SMT line equipment.
- Documentation:
- Keep accurate records of activities, settings, and improvements.
- Prepare technical reports and update process manuals and standard operating procedures.
- Teamwork & Communication:
- Work closely with engineers, designers, and other technicians.
- Help train and guide others in SMT/PCBA processes.
- Communicate updates and technical information clearly.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures.
- Ensure operations meet industry standards and regulations.
What We’re Looking For
- Education/Experience:
- Associate degree or certification in engineering technology, electronics, or related field.
- 3–5 years of hands-on SMT PCBA experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Skills:
- Knowledge of SMT process and workflow.
- Experience with SMT equipment, especially:
- Mycronic and Fuji NXT (preferred)
- Paste printers: Ekra or MPM
- Solder paste inspection: Koh Young
- AOI: Koh Young
- Convection reflow ovens: BTU Pyramax (a plus)
- Experience with Factory Logix MES software (a plus).
- Familiarity with electronics manufacturing standards and best practices.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexible and able to manage multiple tasks or changing priorities.
