Job Title:
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Creo, Hybrid)
Type of Position:
This position will begin as a 12-month contract, with strong potential for long-term employment. While the contract is initially set for 12 months, there is no fixed end date, and extensions beyond the initial term are possible. Conversion to a direct hire role may occur as early as 3 months, depending on individual performance and business needs. Although direct hire is not guaranteed, it is a common outcome for high-performing team members, and most contractors in this role do transition to permanent positions over time.
Candidate Requirements:
This role is working for a major defense contractor. Candidates must be either US Citizens or Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders) to be eligible for this role. Candidates on CPT, OPT, H1B, TN, or other visas are not eligible for this role. Due to the nature of this role (working for a defense contractor tied to the federal government) – candidates may need to pass a drug screen (which would include cannabis). There would be no exceptions to this (eg: a medical card).
Job Location:
Maple Grove, MN (hybrid role).
Compensation:
$60.75/hr. Overtime paid at 1.5x over 40 hours.

- This role will have 7 paid holidays and 9 days PTO (PTO accrues over time). In going direct hire, there will be significantly more PTO.
Overview:
HRU Technical Resources is partnering with a leading defense contractor to hire a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer based at our Maple Grove, MN facility (hybrid role). This role is responsible for the research, design, analysis, development, and support of mechanical systems and components used in defense and military applications. This role supports products such as ammunition handling systems, structures, gun systems, missile launchers, mechanisms, and related equipment. The engineer will utilize PTC Creo Parametric to develop and maintain product models, assemblies, and drawings while ensuring compliance with applicable engineering standards, military specifications, and customer requirements. The position requires strong technical problem-solving skills, collaboration with manufacturing teams, and the ability to support products throughout the development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research, plan, analyze, design, and develop mechanical systems and components for defense-related applications.
- Create and maintain 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using PTC Creo Parametric.
- Perform engineering analyses, testing, and evaluations to support product development and validation activities.
- Interpret design specifications, engineering drawings, models, technical documentation, and test results.
- Ensure designs comply with engineering standards, military specifications, and customer requirements.
- Support prototype development, product testing, troubleshooting, and design verification efforts.
- Perform engineering design, development, experimentation, and product assurance activities for assigned projects.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, reports, engineering records, and design packages.
- Support technical presentations and production-related engineering activities as required.
- Collaborate with internal and external manufacturing teams to support fabrication, assembly, and production efforts.
- Contribute to project planning activities, including schedules, budgets, and technical deliverables.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with customers and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Stay current with industry trends, engineering technologies, and best practices.
- Maintain compliance with safety requirements, policies, and procedures.
Required Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Candidates with a Master of Science degree and relevant experience may also be considered.
Experience
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Experience creating moderately complex mechanical designs and solid models using CAD software.
- Experience supporting manufactured products and working with internal or external machine shops and fabrication teams.
- Ability to solve moderately complex engineering design and development challenges.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with CAD modeling and drawing generation, preferably using PTC Creo Parametric (Creo/Pro-E).
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering analysis techniques.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in military, defense, or other highly regulated product development environments.
- Familiarity with military and commercial engineering standards.
- Working knowledge of GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
- Experience performing tolerance stack-up analyses.
- Two or more years of Creo modeling and drawing generation experience.
- Experience using product data management systems, preferably Windchill.
- Experience developing precision assembly tooling.
- Familiarity with current engineering software, tools, and technologies
Work Environment:
- This is a 1st (day) shift role. This role follows a 9/80 schedule, with 9-hour days Monday through Thursday, an 8-hour workday every other Friday, and the alternate Friday off.
- Collaborative engineering environment supporting defense-related product development and production programs.
- Interaction with manufacturing, quality, program management, and customer stakeholders.
- Occasional support of testing, production, and customer review activities as required.
- There may be occasional overtime in this role. Any OT will be paid at 1.5x.
- This will be a hybrid role. Generally 3 days on site, 2 days working from home.
- Offer may be contingent on a background check and a drug screening, which would include testing for cannabis. There would be no exceptions to the drug screening (eg: for individuals with a medical marijuana card).
