Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Scribe Contractor to join our team on a contract basis. The Technical Scribe will be responsible for reviewing, performing, and documenting comments related to operator, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures. This includes verifying technical accuracy, logic, functionality, and compliance with military standards (MIL-STD). Applicants with excellent writing and editing skills, strong technical aptitude, and attention to detail are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and edit drafted technical procedures for accuracy and compliance
- Analyze and comment on operator, maintenance, and troubleshooting documentation
- Ensure documentation aligns with military standards and functional requirements
- Collaborate with technical teams to improve procedure clarity and completeness
Skills Required
- Writing and Communication:
- Clear, concise, and accurate documentation skills
- Strong grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office)
- Familiarity with military vehicles or publications
- Basic understanding of MIL-STD-40051
- Analytical and Organizational Skills:
- Ability to analyze and simplify complex technical information
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Excellent organizational skills for file and record management
Skills Preferred
- Advanced Writing/Communication:
- Experience producing complex technical documentation, especially for military applications
- Strong editing and proofreading abilities
- Technical Proficiency:
- Deep knowledge of military vehicles and systems (air, ground, or naval)
- Familiarity with military publications and standards (MIL-STD-40051, Mil-Hdbk-1222)
- Military Documentation Experience:
- Experience creating or editing technical manuals, repair manuals, and training materials
- Understanding of military documentation processes, procedures, terminology, and acronyms (e.g., DoD, NATO, MIL-STD)
Experience Required
- 2–3 years of technical writing experience, ideally in military or defense environments
- 1–2 years working with military documentation (manuals, repair, training materials)
- At least 1 year of experience with military standards/regulations (e.g., MIL-STD-40051)
- 1–2 years analyzing complex technical information
- 4–6 years of related technical writing, documentation, or analysis experience
Experience Preferred
- Possession of a valid security clearance (e.g., Secret) is preferred but not mandatory
- 3+ years with military documentation (technical, repair, training manuals; standards compliance)
- 5+ years of technical writing, preferably in defense-related industries
- Experience creating complex technical documentation
Education Required
- Certifications in technical writing (e.g., CPTC, CWNP) or related fields strongly preferred
- Continuing education/professional development in technical writing/editing is a plus
- Familiarity with military standards/regulations (e.g., MIL-STD-40051) highly preferred
- Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 91P, 91H, 91M, or 91A, or equivalent experience considered
- Relevant coursework in technical writing, editing, communication, or technical fields (engineering, computer science, military studies) is desirable
Education Preferred
- Technical writing certifications
- Continuing professional development in writing or communications
- MOS 91P, 91H, 91M, or 91A experience
- Coursework in technical writing, military/defense studies, or technical disciplines
- Familiarity with military standards/regulations (e.g., MIL-STD-40051)
