Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer (Defense Systems)

Location: Madison Heights, MI

Salary: $120,000–$130,000 annually

Contract Length: Initial 6-month contract with potential extension

Position Overview

The Senior Electrical Engineer is a hands-on technical leader responsible for the design, development, and delivery of complex electrical systems supporting defense-focused programs. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong engineering judgment, and the ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, high-uncertainty environments.

This position drives electrical solutions from blank-sheet concept through fabrication, integration, and testing, supporting platforms including wheeled and tracked vehicles, aircraft, and unmanned systems (UAS). The role reports to senior engineering leadership and collaborates closely with program management and cross-functional engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of electrical power and data architectures for complex defense systems
  • Own electrical engineering efforts from concept development through prototype fabrication and test readiness
  • Translate operational and functional requirements into executable technical designs
  • Conduct trade studies evaluating solution space, risk, cost, and performance
  • Mature designs to production-ready and testable states
  • Support limited customer interaction and requirements clarification
  • Mentor and collaborate with engineers across multiple disciplines
  • Operate effectively in ambiguous, high-risk, high-reward environments
  • Adapt quickly to shifting priorities and evolving program needs
  • Participate in occasional after-hours or weekend technical meetings as required

Required Qualifications

  • 15+ years of professional electrical engineering experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Demonstrated experience designing systems in constrained or contested environments
  • Strong background in system-level electrical architecture development
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of outcomes
  • Comfortable leading efforts with limited upfront requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance (CUI initially)

Preferred Qualifications

  • SPRDE Level I or higher
  • IPC CID or CID+ certification
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (no sign-off responsibility required)
  • FE / EIT certification
  • SSBI eligibility for Secret clearance or higher
