Location: Sterling Heights, MI

Pay: $73-78/hour

Long term contract to hire


About the role:

The Senior Mobility Engineer will retain responsibility for design and release of a subset of Full Up Powerpack (FUPP) components for assigned programs. The role entails engagement in Concept Definition, Engineering and Design for the development and delivery of TDP for conventional, hybrid electric and fully electric powertrains for ground combat vehicles. In addition, it is expected that this role will have Modeling and Simulation responsibility.


Position Responsibilities:


Design and Development Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Evaluation of multiple Powerpack configurations in-vehicle using different Engine, Transmission, MGU, Cooling, Air handling and Final drive configurations and components. 
  • Liaise directly or indirectly with suppliers of Powerpack modules and components. 
  • Component through to Installation and Assembly level Design release responsibility.
  • Interface with internal stakeholders including IPT lead, Physical Architect, Systems Engineers, Functional Leadership, FUPP Lead, Chief Engineer, Logistics, Manufacturing and attribute managers/stake holders. 
  • Support internal report out to program stakeholders, customers and organizational leadership. 
  • Derive final design pathways and refine to design release and approval using prescribed GDLS processes.
  • Support internal and external Milestones/Gateways. 
  • Document and Report findings and outcomes. 


Analysis Tasks may include but are not limited to:

  • Simulation of torque blending in parallel hybrid system.
  • Controller/logic tuning for fuel consumption, charging and vehicle range.
  • Thermal models of power electronics, batteries, and powertrain components.
  • Battery Management System modeling.
  • Multidomain powertrain models coupling engine, e-machine, batteries, and electronic components.
  • Development of toolsets for evolving architectures.


Position Requirements: 

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Simulation experience using Matlab/Simulink required.
  • PLM experience using TeamCenter required. 
  • CREO experience required, other CAD packages are a plus. 
  • 10+ years of direct or related experience is ideal.
  • Proven history in the development, correlation, operation and maintenance of analytical toolsets.
  • Experience in interrogation and manipulation using 3D Modeling software.
  • Experience preferred on commercially available and proprietary simulation software.
  • Automotive and Heavy-Duty vehicle experience required. Military land vehicle experience preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills to appropriately size subsystems and components.
  • Experience in interrogation and manipulation of data hosted by CAD software  
  • GD&T expertise a plus. 
  • Powertrain electrification experience a plus. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Mind-set to work collaboratively in a team environment for program success.
  • Proven skills in the development of technical documents and oral communication.
