Power System Design Senior Engineer
Location: Sterling Heights, MI
Pay Rate: $70–$82/hour with PTO and optional benefits
Type: Long-Term Open-Ended Contract
We are seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to support the design, development, modeling, integration, and validation of advanced vehicle power systems for next-generation ground vehicle platforms.
The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in electrical power systems, hybrid-electric vehicle architectures, and systems integration within automotive, defense, heavy equipment, or related industries. This individual will lead power subsystem design efforts, perform architecture and trade studies, develop system models, and support integration activities from concept through vehicle testing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead power subsystem design and development efforts for advanced vehicle electrification capabilities
- Perform power system architecture development and trade studies
- Integrate and evaluate hybrid-electric system components including HV batteries, electric motors, ISGs, DC/DC converters, and power distribution systems
- Develop CAE models for complex hybrid-electric systems and evaluate performance under varying drive cycles, loads, and environmental conditions
- Perform system sizing and analysis based on customer and program requirements
- Translate system requirements into validation test procedures and use cases
- Support development and approval of technical documentation including SRS, SSDD, and interface control documents
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and external partners to integrate subsystems
- Support design reviews, peer reviews, and defect resolution
- Research and evaluate emerging technologies in hybrid and electric vehicle systems
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in electrical power systems for vehicles or similar complex platforms
- Strong experience with power generation, distribution, energy storage, and power management systems
- Experience with hybrid-electric architectures and high-voltage systems
- Strong background in modeling and simulation (MATLAB/Simulink, Ansys)
- Experience supporting system integration and troubleshooting in lab and vehicle environments
- Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with HIL/SIL testing environments
- Experience with CAN communication protocols (J1939)
- Experience with Vector tools (CANoe, CANalyzer, CAPL)
- Experience in defense or military vehicle development programs
- Familiarity with Agile development processes
- Experience with Git, Jira, Confluence, Teamcenter, and VisMockup
