Accounting Manager

Location: Lansing, MI

Salary: $75,000–$85,000/year

Summary

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing financial operations, including general ledger management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions. This critical leadership role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial statements, manages monthly and annual close processes, and implements strong financial controls. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in accounting best practices (including GAAP), display exceptional analytical abilities, and be able to mentor and develop a high-performing team.


Management & Oversight

-    Lead day-to-day operations of the accounting department, covering accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and payroll.

-    Oversee the monthly closing process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.

-    Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve accounting efficiency and reporting accuracy.

-    Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and other financial transactions.

-    Supervise and provide guidance to direct reports (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Accounting Clerk).

Transactions & General Ledger

-    Ensure timely processing and payment of accounts payable; validate proper support for all transactions.

-    Maximize all reasonable discounts on accounts payable.

-    Oversee prompt collection of accounts receivable.

-    Guarantee timely and accurate payroll processing.

-    Complete bank reconciliations and ensure required debt payments are made promptly.

-    Maintain an organized and compliant accounting filing system.

-    Ensure the establishment and enforcement of adequate internal controls.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

-    Assist with the issuance of monthly financial statements and deliver financial analyses as needed.

-    Support the Controller with the annual external audit.

-    Assist with local, state, and federal reporting requirements and tax filings.

-    Coordinate other third-party audits (e.g., workers’ compensation, sales and use tax, general liability).

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

-    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

-    Proven experience in an accounting role with management responsibility.

-    Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

-    Strong ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and succeed in a fast-paced environment.
