Project Engineer
Location: Clinton Township
Pay: $35-38/hour
Long term contract to hire
Key Responsibilities
Design & Review:
- Review project sketches/designs, ensuring systems perform effectively and are cost efficient.
- Understand customer design and build specifications.
- Review layouts and designs with Design Vendors and the Engineering Department.
- Ensure all As Built and Non-Conformances are updated on drawings as provided by Build and Site Supervisors.
- Monitor the release of all drawings through the business system.
- File and maintain all component information and drawings per assigned project.
Project Coordination & Meetings:
- Assist the Project Manager in organizing, supervising, and monitoring engineering activities.
- Schedule and facilitate:
- Detailed equipment concept and proposal review meetings (involving Advance Processing, Mechanical, and Controls Engineering teams).
- Internal reviews and customer reviews.
- Formal design review meetings between customer representatives and the project team.
- Meetings between design groups and representatives of other departments, as needed.
- Manufacturing kickoff meetings, advising Manufacturing on customer considerations, requests, and specifications.
Process Management:
- Create, review, and track process deliverables for the project.
- Monitor and report engineering progress to the Project Manager.
- Support cost negotiation by collecting information on Engineering Changes and determining project impact.
- Review Controls Line-ups to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Respond to queries from build suppliers and shop personnel regarding engineering and associated issues.
Quality, Compliance & Improvement:
- Ensure designs are cost-effective within budget guidelines.
- Adhere to the Quality System and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Understand and follow safety & environmental regulations; identify and address safety/environmental concerns.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university
- OR three to five years of related experience in a specific business segment (such as BIW, Chassis/Glass, Special Welding, etc.)
- OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Technical Competencies:
- Competence in controls engineering and mechanical design in areas such as:
- Force analysis
- Standardization
- Processing
- Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
- Cause and effects analysis
- Reliability & Maintainability (R&M)
- Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Ability to review CAD models using required software
Software Proficiency:
- Microsoft Office Suite, including:
- Outlook
- Word
- Excel
- PowerPoint
