Quality Engineer 2

Location: Onsite – Body Shop / General Assembly (GA) Environment

Schedule: 1st Shift (6:00 AM – 3:00 PM)

Duration: 12 Months (Potential for Extension or Conversion)

Position Summary

The Quality Engineer 2 supports pre-production vehicle builds within Body Shop and General Assembly environments, ensuring product quality through hands-on investigation, documentation, and root cause analysis. This role works cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and production teams to resolve build issues and drive continuous improvement throughout the vehicle development process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support quality activities within pre-production builds across Body Shop and General Assembly
  • Investigate and resolve build and process issues through root cause analysis
  • Document findings, corrective actions, and follow-up activities in a clear and structured manner
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, engineering, and manufacturing
  • Monitor and improve quality metrics using statistical analysis tools
  • Provide hands-on support in manufacturing environments including robotics cells, welding operations, and trim assembly
  • Track issues through resolution and ensure proper closure and validation
  • Communicate technical findings and recommendations to stakeholders

 

Core Competencies

Quality & Root Cause Analysis

  • Identify and resolve quality issues using structured problem-solving methods
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions

Manufacturing & Product Knowledge

  • Apply fundamental understanding of powertrain systems (engines, transmissions, drive units)
  • Support quality efforts within automated and manual manufacturing processes

Statistical Analysis

  • Utilize tools such as Minitab or similar to analyze data and drive improvements

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work effectively across cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Communicate complex technical information clearly to various stakeholders


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering, or related field required
  • Entry-level candidates (recent graduates) will be considered
  • Automotive experience preferred

 

Experience Requirements

  • Experience working in manufacturing, quality, or engineering environments preferred
  • Exposure to production environments such as Body Shop or General Assembly is a plus
  • Familiarity with quality tools, statistical methods, and problem-solving techniques

 

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Work directly on the production floor in Body Shop and GA environments
  • Investigate and document build issues and quality concerns
  • Collaborate with team members while managing independent responsibilities
  • Participate in high-interaction, cross-functional team settings
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives through data analysis and follow-up
