Fire Power Engineer (Mechanical) – Defense Systems
Location: Sterling Heights, MI (Onsite)
Pay Rate: $60–$70/hour

Role Overview
We are seeking a Fire Power Engineer (Mechanical) to support the design, development, integration, and release of weapon system hardware and mechanical subsystems for advanced ground combat platforms. This role focuses on turret systems, gun drives, weapon mounts, ammunition handling hardware, and associated mechanical assemblies for both legacy and next-generation defense vehicles.
The engineer will work cross-functionally with manufacturing, test, procurement, and systems teams to deliver mission-critical hardware that meets performance, safety, and reliability requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical systems and subsystems supporting weapon, turret, and fire power integration
- Create and release CAD models, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings
- Design articulating, locking, sliding, and structural mechanisms aligned with human factors and operational requirements
- Perform tolerance stack-ups and apply GD&T best practices
- Support prototype builds, on-site integration activities, and troubleshooting efforts
- Conduct preliminary design analysis and participate in design reviews
- Perform failure analysis and support corrective action implementation
- Provide technical guidance to drafting and design services teams
- Interface with suppliers and procurement teams during component sourcing
- Generate technical documentation, reports, and modification instructions
- Support testing activities in lab, shop, vehicle integration, and field environments
- Travel to test sites or military installations as required
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related discipline

7+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience
- Experience supporting ground combat vehicles, defense systems, or ruggedized vehicle platforms
- Strong CAD experience (CREO preferred; SolidWorks, NX, CATIA acceptable)
- Experience performing tolerance analysis and reading technical drawings
- Ability to work hands-on in production, prototype, and test environments
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Ability to work onsite in Sterling Heights
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with turret systems, gun drives, weapon mounts, or ammunition handling mechanisms
- Working knowledge of FEA tools (NASTRAN, LS-DYNA, ANSA or equivalent)
- Experience with Teamcenter or similar PLM systems
- Prior military vehicle or weapons integration program experience
Additional Requirements
- Must be eligible to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)
- Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and overtime as program demands require
- Ability to travel to customer sites, test facilities, and military installations
