Position: IT Server Administrator II

Location: Livonia, MI (Onsite)

Compensation: $40–50/hour (depending on experience)

Employment Type: Full-Time / Contract

Job Summary

The IT Server Administrator II is responsible for managing and maintaining both on-premises and cloud-based server environments to ensure reliability, security, and optimal performance. This role includes administering Active Directory, supporting network connectivity, implementing security policies, and providing technical expertise for server infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, configure, maintain, and support physical and virtual servers.
  • Monitor system health and validate corporate backups weekly, ensuring data is restorable.
  • Develop and implement server maintenance standards, procedures, and documentation.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues within server environments.
  • Maintain a secure and efficient Active Directory environment.
  • Implement and enforce approved security policies, escalating issues as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for systems, policies, and standards.
  • Serve as a technical resource for system and network-related projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with greenfield setup, configuration, and support of recent Microsoft Windows Server and Linux operating systems.
  • Scripting ability in one or more languages (e.g., PowerShell, VBScript, Perl, PHP, Python).
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN, firewalls, and proxy servers.
  • Experience with tape, snapshot, and cloud-based backup solutions.
  • Solid knowledge of database environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing corporate backup solutions.
  • Familiarity with capacity planning and performance monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios).
  • Working knowledge of LAN/WAN routing, VPN configurations, and network cabling.
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime, including weekends, as needed.
