Electro-Mechanical Technician (Prototype & R&D)
Location: Maple Grove, MN
Employment Type: 12-Month Contract-to-Hire
Schedule: Onsite | 9/80 schedule (6:00 AM – 3:00 PM) | Overtime Available
Pay Rate: $33.89/hour

Position Overview
We are seeking motivated Electro-Mechanical Technicians to support a fast-paced prototype and R&D engineering team. In this hands-on role, you will work directly with design engineers throughout the entire product development lifecycle, helping fabricate, assemble, test, and validate advanced prototype concepts.

Key Responsibilities
- Support design engineering from concept through prototype build, test, and verification
- Interpret engineering drawings, sketches, models, samples, and verbal instructions
- Fabricate and assemble parts, sub-assemblies, shop aids, and templates using a variety of materials
- Operate and set up equipment including shearing, sawing, routing, punching, drilling, forming, rolling, and grinding
- Use hand tools, power tools, and prototype shop equipment; perform basic equipment maintenance
- Identify and report drawing discrepancies, variances, and build issues through proper reporting channels
- Operate forklifts, jib cranes, hoists, and prototype shop equipment
- Operate experimental and existing vehicles on-site and at field test locations
- Maintain a strong focus on safety and safe work practices
- Act as a liaison between prototype teams and supervision during product integration
- Report build status, progress, and issues to management
- Assist with reviewing and improving mechanical drawings, schematics, specifications, and parts lists
- Support troubleshooting, repair, and diagnostics of customer assets during testing
- Travel to off-site testing locations as needed; may serve as lead technician for field support
Required Qualifications
- Education & Experience (one of the following):

2-year technical degree or diploma plus 4+ years of relevant experience

High School Diploma or GED plus 8+ years of relevant experience

Hands-on experience with assembly, integration, fabrication, and testing

Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems

Experience in prototype, R&D, or engineering development environments
- Ability to ensure products meet specifications and quality standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Manual and/or CNC machining experience
- Assembly and inspection experience
- AWS welding certification
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, models, and work instructions
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
