Job Description

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing functional, reliable, and cost-effective heavy-duty vehicle components. This role involves engineering analysis, design or redesign, development and integration of components for both new and existing vehicles. The engineer will support project execution and provide both technical and project management support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks according to industry standards and best practices.
  • Support senior engineers in preparing plans, designs, computation methods, and technical documentation.
  • Manage assigned projects or portions of projects with limited complexity; may oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering, business support disciplines, and external suppliers.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to entry-level engineers, designers, or technicians working on shared projects.
  • Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and external partners regarding technical issues.
  • Apply company policies, engineering criteria, and drawing standards to ensure technical compliance.
  • Evaluate designs for performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Direct and prepare layouts, drawings, specifications, and bills of material.
  • Perform engineering analysis to select appropriate parts, components, and materials for requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance and support for production.
  • Analyze and resolve issues reported to Engineering, communicating resolutions verbally and in writing.
  • Prepare technical proposals, quotes, reports, and presentations.
  • Create and maintain project documentation for analysis, research, and historical records.
  • Apply analytical and mathematical methods to model system performance and optimize designs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Three (3) or more years of relevant engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with 3D CAD design tools and modeling.
  • Previous exposure to military combat systems.
  • Knowledge of video signal design and transmission.
  • Experience in root cause problem-solving methodologies.
  • Background in electro-mechanical systems integration.
  • Experience with product testing, test labs, or hardware-in-the-loop testing environments.
  • Strong technical writing skills; experienced in creating engineering documentation.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition tools and post-processing techniques.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent: Standing, walking/running, sitting, reaching, hearing, talking, visual tasks, typing
  • Occasional: Driving, fine/manual dexterity, upper extremity repetitive motion
  • Seldom: Lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs, pushing/pulling up to 25 lbs

  • Frequent: Analysis/reasoning, communication, math/computation, reading, sustained mental activity, writing

Environmental Demands:

  • Frequent: Working alone, task changes, tedious/exacting work
  • Occasional: High public contact

Work Schedule:

  • Routine shift hours; infrequent overtime, weekends, or shift rotation

  • High and variable work demands; may include considerable stress or direct contact with distressed individuals
