Controls Engineer
Location: Wentzville, MO
Contract: 12 months with possible extension or direct hire
Schedule: Onsite | Monday–Saturday
- Must be flexible on shift assignment
- Likely start: 1st shift (5:30 AM–3:00 PM)
Possible transition to:
- 2nd shift (1:30 PM–11:00 PM)
- 3rd shift (9:30 PM–7:00 AM)
- Required: Work every 3rd Sunday
- Estimated weekly overtime: ~20 hours
Compensation: $42–$45/hour

Position Summary
The Controls Engineer will support our client's body shop at their Wentzville manufacturing site, troubleshooting and maintaining automated equipment in a high-volume production environment. This role also includes leading small-scale continuous improvement projects and collaborating with UAW trades and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure equipment uptime and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and resolve automation equipment issues on the production line
- Support UAW trades and maintenance staff during unplanned downtime
- Lead and implement small-scale continuous improvement projects
- Read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics
- Design and modify PLC and HMI programs (Rockwell/Allen Bradley)
- Use AutoCAD and EPLAN for control system documentation
- Interface with weld, dimensional, and production engineers in cross-shift meetings
- Provide training and technical support to plant personnel
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field
- OR: 1–2 years of relevant experience with a degree, or 5+ years without a degree
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting ability in a manufacturing environment
- Proficiency with Rockwell/Allen Bradley ControlLogix and DeviceNet
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
- Familiarity with:
- Fanuc robot programming
- Siemens systems
- AutoCAD and EPLAN
- Competency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical personnel
Preferred Skills
- Experience with PowerFlex 750 drives
- Knowledge of safety and electrical standards
- Background in robotic weld systems
- Supervisory experience and a proactive, problem-solving mindset
