Test Engineer – OpenVPX Program (Defense & Aerospace)

Location: Hudson, NH

Pay: $35–45/hr

Job Type: Long-term contract

Position Overview

We are seeking a Test Engineer to serve as a Test Engineering Lead supporting an OpenVPX chassis program within the defense and aerospace sector. This role is responsible for managing test engineering activities, delivering test plans and results, and providing status updates to both internal program teams and customers.

The Test Engineer will design, develop, and execute test strategies to evaluate system performance, functionality, and compliance with industry standards. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and effectiveness of advanced defense and aerospace technologies.

Key Responsibilities

Test Planning & Strategy

  • Collaborate with design engineers, program managers, customers, and suppliers to understand system requirements and specifications
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and strategies to validate performance, reliability, and compliance
  • Identify critical test cases and define objectives, success criteria, and acceptance requirements

Test Development & Execution

  • Design and implement test procedures for functional, integration, performance, and stress testing
  • Configure test environments, equipment, and instrumentation for accurate data collection
  • Execute tests, analyze results, and document issues or anomalies
  • Troubleshoot system defects and work closely with engineering teams to resolve issues

Documentation & Reporting

  • Generate detailed test procedures, reports, and recommendations
  • Maintain accurate documentation for regulatory compliance and program tracking
  • Provide regular status updates and technical findings to stakeholders and customers

Test Automation & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to automate testing and improve efficiency
  • Develop automated test scripts and frameworks where applicable
  • Continuously refine testing methodologies, tools, and processes

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure testing activities comply with applicable safety regulations, industry standards, and quality requirements
  • Support audits, regulatory requirements, and customer compliance needs

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • Experience developing and executing test plans and procedures
  • Familiarity with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and similar instrumentation
  • Strong understanding of communication protocols (SPI, PCIe, TCP/UDP)
  • Working knowledge of networking concepts (subnets, VLANs, etc.)
  • Understanding of defense and aerospace standards (MIL-STD, DO-178C, DO-254, AS9100)
  • Programming experience in Python, C, or C++ and exposure to test automation
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

Preferred

  • Prior experience in the defense or aerospace industry
  • Experience supporting OpenVPX or rugged embedded systems programs
  • Master’s degree in a related field
