RF Antenna Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled RF Antenna Engineer to support the design, development, integration, and testing of advanced RF and antenna systems for defense and aerospace applications. This role will focus on developing high-performance RF solutions, validating system performance, and collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in RF engineering, antenna design and testing, and electromagnetic theory, along with hands-on experience using industry-standard simulation and test equipment.
Key Responsibilities
RF System Design & Development
- Design, develop, and analyze RF systems and components for defense and aerospace applications.
- Support the development of antennas, transmitters, receivers, amplifiers, frequency converters, and related RF hardware.
- Utilize simulation and modeling tools to evaluate and optimize RF system performance.
Antenna Development & Integration
- Design and integrate antenna systems into aerospace and defense platforms, including aircraft, satellites, unmanned systems, and ground-based equipment.
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, software, and systems engineering teams to ensure successful integration and overall system performance.
- Support design reviews and engineering trade studies.
Testing & Validation
- Develop and execute RF and antenna test plans.
- Conduct antenna characterization and performance testing using antenna test ranges and short-field testing methods.
- Validate system performance against customer, regulatory, and program requirements.
- Analyze test results and recommend design improvements where necessary.
Troubleshooting & Performance Optimization
- Investigate and resolve RF performance issues including signal interference, noise, power limitations, and system degradation.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to optimize system performance.
- Support manufacturing, integration, and field testing activities as required.
Frequency Planning & Technical Documentation
- Perform RF spectrum planning and frequency management activities to ensure efficient spectrum utilization.
- Prepare engineering documentation including:
- System specifications
- Design documentation
- Test procedures
- Technical reports
- Verification and validation documentation
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and defense customer specifications.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Strong understanding of RF engineering principles and antenna theory.
- Experience designing, developing, or testing RF systems and antenna technologies.
- Hands-on experience with antenna test ranges and antenna performance measurements.
- Experience using RF test equipment, including:
- Vector Network Analyzers (VNA)
- Spectrum Analyzers
- Signal Generators
- Oscilloscopes
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within cross-functional engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience supporting defense, aerospace, or military programs.
- Proficiency with RF design and simulation software such as:
- MATLAB
- Keysight Advanced Design System (ADS)
- CST Microwave Studio
- Similar electromagnetic simulation tools
- Experience with frequency planning and RF spectrum management.
- Familiarity with aerospace and defense industry standards and compliance requirements.
- Active security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one.
